Ko Samui vs. Krabi

We are planning our honeymoon in Nov and are unable to decide between visiting the Krabi or traveling to Ko Samui. We have received conflicting information regarding the monsoon season and would appreciate any advice. Does anyone have hotel recommendations in Ko Samui & Krabi?

Thanks.

Have been to Krabi and Phuket, but not Koh Sumai. November is definitely the height of the monsoon season in southern Thailand - don't know about Koh Sumai.

Welcome to FlyerTalk!

As you spend more time here, which I hope you will, you'll see that FT is divided into forums for specific topics. Since it has nearly 200,000 members and ten million or so posts, that's the only way to avoid total chaos.

If you scroll way down in the Travel section, past the U.S., you'll find a forum devoted to Thailand. It's quite active. Lots of people who know a lot about Thailand hang out there. Some of them don't come to TravelBuzz, which is for general topics that don't have a more specific focus, often. You'll probably get more and better answers in that forum. I'll ask a moderator to move this thread to there.

Congratulations, and enjoy your honeymoon!

Isn't November on the tail of end of monsoon season? I've gone there several times in December and only had a bit of rain.

Rainfall

I haven't been to Ko Samui, though I heard OK things about the moon festival from friends. Was in Krabi during the tsunami. I generally like the area, stayed in Ao Nang beach and went to Railey to rock climb (they got hit the worst by the wave).

Going from memory here.......for Ao Nang, it's a small, OK beach due to boat landings/ferry area. Beaches have no chairs or anything. Not much nightlife. Railey was more family orientated, only a single hotel I think. The beach next to Railey was more "relaxed" (think younger crowd, rock climbers......more like the movie The Beach).

It was good change from Phuket, but I think Phuket might be better for a honeymoon only because it might have better hotels for honeymooners, more things to do.

Just my .02 :D

I've been Samui but not the others. I loved Samui. I was there in August and the weather was fab.

Best option is to have a moderator move this thread to the Thailand forum

Welcome to flyertalk. The weather in Krabi should be more agreeable in November but you will get rain showers everywhere.
The scenery around Krabi is much more stunning than samui and samui has become quite crowded.
Are you looking for budget, midpriced or luxury hotels?
Samui is packed with hotels of every variety whilst Krabi has some really special hotels, certainly in the mid and higher bracket.
enjoy your honeymoon

Samui to me is packed with places trying to separate you from your baht, it is a high destination area and it is very touristy. I enjoyed my time there but there are much better places. Krabi of course is still touristy and everyone is wanting to separate you from your baht but Krabi to me, is more romantic or more enjoyable for a honeymoon. There are some great places down south, Khao Lak I went with a lady and had a perfect few days of seclusion.

There are literally hundreds of places down south and in Thailand for that matter that are more romantic then Samui or Krabi.

Would I go back to Samui, sure if they give me a free room and airfare. Would I go back to Krabi... probably some day, been there more then a few times as you gotta fly into Krabi, Phuket or Kantang if you want to get down south by air.

Expand your search maybe. There was a semi decent book by Lonely Planet, Thailand's Islands and Beaches that might help you more to know about which destination to pick.
