Conrad Bangkok vs. Le Meridien

Considering these two hotels for possible 4 wk stay. Curious if anyone has recently stayed at either location and how was the experience in terms of room size, swimming pool, restaurants, location (BTS not close?) and overall service.

Which one?

Which Le Meridien? Plaza Athenee, the one on Wireless Rd. which is the same street where the Conrad is located or the new Le Meridien at Silom

Both!

If its Conrad vs Plaza Athenee (havent stayed at the other LM); the Conrad is the better of the two hotels.

Conrad has nicer rooms (except for the bed), better food in lounge and I thought service is slightly more polished. Both have nice pools but I believe Conrad's pool is larger. PA has 2 squash courts while Conrad has 2 tennis courts. PA is slightly closer to skytrain but Conrad has a shuttle bus service.

For suite upgrade, I believe you stand a better chance at PA (I am assuming you have status at both)

What's with Conrad bed - important if we stay 4 wks :)
They've got a 2 nights, 1 free night special running through end of august so makes rates quite appealing.
And where does shuttle bus service go to - BTS?

mario33 Jun 24, 2009 9:08 am

Conrad's bed is a little to hard for my liking, but I guess you will get used to it after a few days.

The shuttle service is actually run by All Seasons Place (of which the Conrad is a part ) and drops you off "near" the BTS.

Both Conrad and PA are my favorites. If you have access to the club lounge, Conrad offers much better food during cocktail hours. I do not see any problem with Conrad beds. I like Conrad's light and warm blanket. The shuttle runs between Conrad and BTS station. PA is now offering THB5,600 promo for 2 nights including breakfast. I recommend to spend a few nights at PA too.

IMHO, the Plaza Athenee's pool is better, because it's in the sun most of the day, while the Conrad's is not. They are both very nice 5-star places, but the Conrad is more modern, chic and trendy, while the PA is more classical. I prefer the PA, but only because I have SPG status that gets me upgraded. The Conrad has the advantage of being connected to All Seasons place mall, and it's abundance of reasonably priced restaurants and a supermarket and banks, but the PA is just a short (perhaps 300 meter) walk from All Seasons place. Conversely, the PA is 300 meters closer to the BTS.

If I had the same status in both, and was paying the same rate, I'd give the nod to the Conrad, but it's a slim margin.

:) When I said "Both!" I meant the PA and the Conrad or LeM BKK and Conrad. Basically hotel hop!

The PA is participating in Z3R, Z4R, Z5R and Z6R so lots of options for free nights similar to the Conrad.

Isn't the Plaza Athenee a Royal Meridien?

I have recent stays at both the Conrad on Wireless and the Le Meridien at Silom, and give the slight nod to the Conrad. The staff is great at both, and the LM has, IME, slightly better rooms, but the Conrad's location wins it out for me. It is adjacent to a shopping complex (don't be shy, try the food court the locals enjoy for some cheap, tasty eats at lunch) and an easy walk to the Skytrain.

That said, I'd go Plaza Athenee if selecting between the three.

Yes, but still part of the Starwood Le Meridien group I believe. No?

Where is the food court? I'm assuming in All Seasons but where?

Next to Tops Supermarket; the stalls now have descriptions of the food in English (apart from Thai) which makes it easier to order.

Thanks for everyone's input and suggestions; they were very very helpful.

We're going to tentatively book Conrad Hotel for a few nights at their 2 for 1 special - having the All Seasons Mall next door will keep the Mrs. busy the first few days. We will then visit PA, Le Meridian, and a few nice service apts to decide on our home for the next 4-5 wks.

I've already made touch with each place's sales managers to start 'negotiating' a long term rate.

The term "mall" is perhaps a little misleading; its more of a collection of shops, restaurants, banks and a supermarket to cater to the needs of the 3 office towers. After office hours, its dead quiet. There is however a cheap massage place on the 3rd level ...
