How to get from Phuket to Krabi
 

I booked hotel reservations in Phuket and in Krabi - without considering how to get from one to another?

What's a time efficient and safe way to get from Phuket to Krabi?

I believe there is a bus but that will go to Krabi town which is about 30 minutes away from the resorts I assume you are staying at one of the beach resorts? The easiest way would be a taxi probably cost about 2500 baht each way. The journey is about 2-3 hours

The boat is much more fun. Haven't done it for a while but most of the cheap boats stop/transfer at Koh Phi Phi. It will take longer than the bus but not that much longer. The bus goes roundabout while the boat goes in a relatively straight line. A taxi for 2500 baht seems too low to me, but again, I haven't done it in a while.

I'm staying at the Pakasai Resort. Is that near Krabi town?

And, uh, how is Krabi pronounced?

Sort of. Emphasize the first syllable a bit and supress the "r" to virtually nothing. But then again, assuming you don't look Thai, you are probably more likely to understood if you just mispronounce it.

We did this from Krabi to Khao Lak [1 hour north of Phuket] for THB2,500 from a local taxi service.
Whatever, you do, do NOT use the hotels, as they will fleece you - ours quoted 4,500 for the same journey.

There are many buses that go from Phuket to Krabi town.
I went From Krabi town to Koh Lak changing in Tak Kupa,total cost was 140BHT.Also took taxi once 2200 Bht.
I also heard that a VAN arranged by Krabi Shearton would be 3200 BHT to Phuket/Patong in either direction.

I enjoy driving in Thailand and several rental car agencies at the HKT airport will let you drop off at the KBV airport.

Driving yourself gives you the flexibility of stopping to sight see where-ever you want, and also opens up plenty of day trip opportunities that might otherwise be out of reach, expensive, or very time consuming to do.

Driving this route (I've done it twice) is very safe and easy.

1) Would a boat be cheaper? or would it be faster?

2) Would a hotel van be any better than a taxi?

2-3 hours sounds like a long drive and like a recipe for motion sickness. I'm willing to spend a bit more if there's a faster way.

Just returned from Thailand and did something very similar: Landed at HKT and needed a car to Ao Nang, which is in Krabi province. We used Phuket Airport Limousine and Business Co-Operative (see their site) and were extremely pleased. They quoted us a r/t price that was considerably less than the hotel wanted. It was more than we could might have paid if we landed and bargained with the drivers at HKT, but we were landing late at night and didn't want the hassle. In marked contrast to the other drivers we had in and around Ao Nang, our driver was absolutely excellent -- 100% on time and knowledgable about the best routes, etc. Also -- and this is no small thing -- he wasn't a daredevil...we felt totally safe with him behind the wheel. Slightly under 2 hours from HKT to Ao Nang. We paid 5,400 BHT r/t, and it was worth the prumium to not have to worry about anything. If you book through them, ask for Peter.
