need hotel/hostel recommendation
Hi all,
Can anyone give me any hints on where to stay in Bangkok. I am looking for somewhere fairly cheap (ideally not more than 1200 bt a night). I don't mind if it is a guesthouse, I don't mind shared bathrooms, and location is not the biggest priority. However, specific things that appeal to me are: cleanliness, wifi, a good atmosphere, and maybe a pool. Is this possible to find? Thanks very much in advance for any suggestions.... |
Suk 11 seems to get positive reviews. I saw an interview with the owner on TV here last year, and the property was featured extensively in the interview. It looked really nice. No pool but a rooftop garden. I've walked by many times but never gone in. It is on a sub-soi off of Soi 11 so away from the street, but maybe only a 5 min. walk to the Nana BTS (Skytrain) stop.

I didn't see anything about wifi on their site. Do you know if they have it? |
Yes, they have WiFi in the lobby and common areas. I just called them to confirm.
They have a website too. http://www.suk11.com |
other ideas
http://bangpli.com/sananwan.htm is a guesthouse near the airport that several here have recommended.
Also, on Asiarooms.com some of the places I looked at that had good reviews were: Bangkok Boutique--has wireless internet Royal Benja--hasgym, Bossotel --says internet broadband all rooms. Exercise room. Walking distance to river TheBedrooms -- Has wi-fi |
At one time I liked the funky Shanti Lodge, in the Dusit area (near the National Library). I sometimes still stay at the cheaper Taewez Guesthouse a few doors down @ 300THB for a double/fan/shared bathroom.
A few blocks from Khao San Rd, is the Wild Orchid. Open air lobby has a super atmosphere, but I've not seen the rooms or the prices. http://www.khaosanroad.com/directory...listing_id=198 |
location wise, Sukhumvit 11 is an excellent place and I know this hostel - it's in a good street. There are also a couple of good guesthouses/hotels VERY close to National Stadium BTS station, on a street called Kasemsan Soi 1. Hotel Reno has a pool (albeit small). You can check on google for more details about this hotel, and others in this street. I used to live in a condo on this street until last year (when I moved to sukhumvit, just up from Soi 11), and location-wise it's the best place I've lived in BKK.
