Phuket Tailor

We will be in Thailand next month. Our stay in Bangkok is too short to see a tailor, but we will be in Phuket for eight nights.

Anyone out there suggest a good tailor in Phuket? We will be at the Marriott but are very willing to go another part of the island.

Come'on-someone out there got a suit in Phuket...

Right?

A friend is travelling to Phuket shortly and is interested in the same thing -- a tailor (or tailors) who can produce good value ladies and mens clothing.

Surely, someone has experience from this...

Cheers,
T.

Go to bkk! you'll find plenty of good tailors there

It seemed like there were HUNDREDS of pesky tailor shops in Patong.
Which are good, I don't know.

After my first day,
I crossed the street to avoid having to shake their hands,
which they annoyingly thrust into yours as you walk along.

How long for a Tailored Suit in BKK

Okay, name a few good places, length of time for the suit to be made, and price I should pay.

Ok first, this thread would be of great help to you:
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=412098

Plenty of good tailor shops there. The ones that were highly mentioned:
Raja's fashion, Crown Tailors, Rajawongse (havent tried Rajas and rajawongse myself since I've always been happy with Crown, but just to let you know the places that were mentioned)

Secondly, length of time would be 3-4 days with fittings. Maybe even more. I'd highly recommend fittings whenever you go see a tailor. A good tailor will recommend you fittings right away and head you towards good quality material. So dont go for the $139 deals including 2 suits and shirts and ties and stuff. Useless. Price should range from $225-250.

phuket tailor

Hi, if u look for a good tailor, to order costume, dress, wedding dress i advise u to go to Pintong tailor in Phuket town, it's a cheap adress and they work good. The shop is situated on Vichitsongkram road close to Darasamuth School, 200m from Central festival, good luck !

;)

I'll actually planning on getting some new suits in BKK in July, but reading through all the FT 'tailor' threads I thought I might have something useful to contribute to this particular thread for someone's future use.

I have previously had a very good experience getting suits made at the following HKT tailor:

Peter Fashion House
tel: + 66 76 270949

The shop is located just 2-3 minutes walk from the entrance to the Dusit Thani Laguna - in a very pleasant open shopping mall.

In the street that's runs down the side of the former Marriott Courtyard in Patong there is a tailor and I have had a few shirts done there and am very pleased with them. There were a couple of wealthy Germans in there a month or so ago and from what I saw the work and attention to detail was impressive.

PM me when you are here and I'll be able to update you.

My wife was researching tailors in Phuket and came across this place.

http://www.phukettailor-instyle.com/

Highly recommended by several threads on TripAdvisor. I know TA has issues with bogus threads and recommendations. But these all seemed to be legit (people posting had multiple posts and reviews over several destinations, etc)

Does anybody have any personal experience with this place?

Not this place but I had some suites and shirts made at Gulatino Tailor, it is on the same street as the Marriott Courtyard, the side with the Hard Rock, just a little south. The suites and shirts I had made are great quality and the price was better than other tailors I looked into around Patong. We were very busy our last few day in Phuket and they delivered everything to the Marriott.

Yes, I took my sons there early last year because they had no time in Bangkok and after doing similar TripAdvisor research. I don't recommend them. They weren't terrible but you just don't get the same quality you will find in BKK. And the service is a bit indifferent. But you will pay BKK prices or even a bit more.

When I went back and looked at TripAdvisor there were lots of tell-tale signs of the bogus posts. Lots of posters with no posting history, lots of East European 'expats' or locals with perfect English. When you go to the instyle store it is up an alley...its virtually impossible for it to come out #1 on tripadvisor without a thread fix.

I don't have any other HKT recommendation to make. I'd recommend BKK if you can get a couple of days there.

Thnaks for sharing your experience.

Unfortunately we don't have a lot of time in BKK this trip, so that is not an option.

In my opinion, the tailor work in Phuket is... CRAP

I have had really nice casual shirts, linen shirts, cheap dress shirts made in Patong. Not expensive, ok quality.

Yes, you will get a shirt/suit, but it will be worth exactly what you paid for it. I've had 350THB shirts made, they were worth about $10. I've had 650THB shirts made, they were nicer, but a $20 dollar shirt off the shelf at home has better workmanship and honestly labels the material.
Not "exceptional value" or an "exceptional deal".

If you want a cheap suit, Patong is a great place to achieve that goal. You won't wear it to interviews or a wedding, the quality of the material may not be perfect, but they can make you some stuff.

Now, I am sure there are a few reputable shops. Maybe a big name, or maybe a small shop. But, usually they are legal fronts for Thai residency, and nothing more.

Most of the shops will sub-contract their orders to small sewing shops in the slummier areas of Patong. What I am saying is that no matter what shop you choose, the workmanship is likely done out of the same dozen little makeshift factories.

Happy Shopping.
