GPS won't be necessary, the problem is I never look at maps in BKK so some of the places could be on one soi or the next parallel one. That's the info I need to glean.

However, more people equals more dishes to taste!

Suan Thip

I've been there a few years ago and really liked it. I was sightseeing in the area at the time so I'm not sure I have my bearings/distances straight - is that a reasonable place to go for dinner. How far is it from Bangkok ???

Have there been recent experiences there ?

Appreciate your help.

Suan Tip is well out of town. You would want to be very sure your driver knew where it was before you left. The food is very good and the location is great to enjoy.

Never, ever eat in a restaurant at the Lebua! Just have drinks on the terrace!

Check the Shangarila (do not mix up with Shangri-La-Hotel). One of my favorite chinese restaurants (and of my sino-thai friends) and the peking roast duck is delicious.

I love Salathip restaurant, in the Shangri-La Bangkok. You can dine right by the riverside on in the air-conditioned Thai style pavilion. I've done both--depends on the time of year.

I also like the Spice Market in the Regent/Four Seasons.

On Sukhumvit soi 24, I like Lemongrass. From Suk Rd, turn on soi 24 and it's about 100 meters on the left.

Peking Duck

An An Lao

China House

No need for new threads, just post your questions in this one.

There are a lot of neighborhood restaurants that specialise in duck, outside of Yaowarat.

YMMV, but I found it bland and overpriced. I suspects it survives mostly because it gets a good review in Chikyu no Arukikata, the Japanese Lonely Planet, and is hence usually full of Japanese.

The dishes I've ordered there (admittedly not the entire menu) have been excellent. It's maybe a touch overpriced but that's because it's in a 5-star hotel, which is also why I think it survives.

I also like the Thai tea ice cream.

Heading to BKK in a few weeks and looking for reco's near either the Millenium Hilton or Le Meridien. Great thread and hope people will continue to add. Last time in BKK fave meal was at Sonboon (may have that spelling incorrect). Great crab, though be sure cab driver doesn't take you to a 'fake' one - we got duped and then realized it wasn't the real deal. Real one is walking distance from Le Meridien.

....cab driver might have not been a bad guy on this one.......Somboon has many branches;

http://www.somboonseafood.com/e-branches.html

Actually, I found the one near Rama I Road (Bantadthong Branch) to be the best, but that's a ymmv.....and if you are looking to buy sports equipment, this neighborhood can't be beat.

Although, there is a BKK scam involving Somboon, reported here;

"Beware!! FAKE SOMBOONSEAFOOD SCAM
Now there have been groups of people who have used names similar to Somboon Seafood as a scam to confuse and mislead both Thai and foreign customers into eating at their restaurants. Such restaurants work closely with some taxi drivers who would drive customers to their place and exceedingly overcharge them.By doing so, these taxi drivers receive a huge sum of commission. Therefore, We would like to inform you that Somboon Seafood does not have any branches located near railroad tracks or at Suan Lum Night Bazaar or in any other city.
We have only 5 branches in Bangkok :
1. Bantadthong Branch & Chinese (Cantonese style)
2. Surawong Branch
3. Ratchada Pisek Branch
4. Bangna (Sukhumvit 103)
5. SamYan"
