Koh Samui, Thailand, Hotel Recommendations?

I've done a quick search on Koh Samui and turned up some interesting comments and recommendations. Thanks to those who have gone before us . However, I've found no references to the Imperial Samui Hotel
http://www.sawadee.com/samui/imperial/details/

Has any one stayed there, been there or have any comments? And is it close to a town or other hotels?

Also, I can't quite get a handle as to what lies outside the resort itself. Is there other stuff to do on the island - sightseeing, shopping and so on.

All comments gratefully received, as I have to cancel my reservation by Thursday!

Hotel has seen better days. However, the hotel is scheduled for renovation during 2003. Check on this first.

All the rooms are in low-rise buildings. There are a lot of steps in the hotel. which can be tiring. Try to get a room in the buildings nearest the entrance as these have the best seaviews. The other buildings offer partially obstructed views.
