help with trip to Thailand in September
 

We are taking advantage of a good fare to BKK for a AAdvantage Platinum Challenge in September. We'll be there from the 2nd to the 17th and would be grateful for any tips, suggestions, etc. you might have. We love beaches in particular, so if your have any suggestions on good beach destinations in the rainy season we're all ears. But any information you might have would help. Thanks.

perhaps narrow your questions down a bit as they are quite broad.

Samui and Phuket for beaches. Check out to find the right beach in Phuket. Chiang Mai and Rai & Mae Hon Son in the north. Sukhothai and Ayuthia in Thailand or even a quick trip on Bangkok Airways to Angkor Wat in Cambodia for Khmer ruins.

There are plenty of places to visit in BKK.

Krabi might be one of your destination. There are nice beches, a lot of island. Phi Phi Island is one of the poppular island. Many people understand Phi Phi Island is belong to Phuket but the truth it's belong to Krabi. There are a lot of resort for 1 - 5 stars. If you like a lot of people and entertainment at night you may be stay on the Ao-nang beach which have over 20 resorts but if you like nature, quiet Klong Muang & Tab Kak beach will be the place. There are about 5 resort on both beach. Sheraton Krabi is the new resort in Krabi and first international chain in Krabi and will be more international chain coming in next few years. Krabi have a lot good place for sightseeing Kayaking, Diving Fishing. In September is monsoon season and it might have typhoon. I was born and grow up in Bangkok but now working in Krabi and I love it here.

You may want to consider a side trip to Cambodia's Siem Reap (Ankor Wat). I've visited Thailand many times, and lived in Bangkok for over a year straight.

Once I finally went to Siem Reap, I wished I'd have taken the time to go before! It's absolutely BEAUTIFUL. The Cambodian border (not beautiful) is only a 4-5 hour bus from Bangkok's MorChit bus station, then another 3-4 hours from there to Siem Reap. As long as you cross the border before 5pm closing, you'll get to Siem Reap. The border has big casinos. Or you can fly. Buy your air tickets at a BKK travel agent (probably best).

Also if you have some cohones you can do what I did. Fly to Phnom Phen rent a motorcycle, and drive it to Siem Riep. Or like I did down to Vietnam, awesome ride not too dangerous and temples to visit along the way.

Bangkok Airways was running a "Discovery Airpass" special a while back. Not sure if it's still on, but I paid $50 per flight segment (min. 3 segments per person) for anywhere they fly.
