congrats on having made it through COVID.

I guess you are aware that having caught COVID does not give you immunity. Antibody levels vary greatly patient to patient, and like any virus there are different strains on circulation, and you cannot assume any antibodies you might our might not have will cope with a different strain that didn't infect you previously.

The current military government in Thailand seems to be very risk averse, I also doubt borders will be widely open in 2020, if anything they might open a couple of the islands but even that is a might.

Thanks for showing concern for my health, but as I mentioned previously it's not a concern to me. I had it pretty bad so all the scientific evidence supports I'm probably immune for a year or two in the minimum, but that's enough for the off-topic.

Appreciate your opinion regarding state of the country. Looks like a mixed bag for opinions so far. Trip is scheduled for Bangkok but I suppose I could try and get a connecting flight BKK-HKT if that's a considered a more open location come November.

Airline I'm travelling with (LH/LX) has announced no passenger flights to Thailand until end of October, so I'm just waiting anxiously for the winter schedule to come in

Which "year"?

2020? Fuggetaboutit.

2021? Ask again later.

Can't see "normal" arrivals until 2H2021 at the earliest. "Normal" = pre-Covid: visa exemption/VoA, no quarantine, no insurance, etc.

Nine out of ten ASEAN countries remain closed to tourists. The tenth requires a "deposit".

Of the returning people (Thais and assorted essential workers like teachers: 3,000 English teachers from the Philippines, and elsewhere for the private schools opening soon) a surprisingly large number test positive in quarantine.

The Thai tourism model is based on millions (I think 38 million last year, the target was 42 million this year) of tourists: high volume/low price. A trickle of tourists - a few million - is hardly worth waking up for.

That's certainly true - just in the last day or so we've a big cheese in the tourist authority saying no way to 2020 arrivals and another big cheese in some other body saying definitely OK for November/December. All just opinions and I don't suppose we'll know until towards the end of September at best.

Not correct, a very small number of returning Thais test positive in Quarantine.
Thai's are not required to take a PCR test before repatriation flights, only foreign nationals are required to take PCR tests and there have not been foreign nationals testing positive during the 14 day mandated quarantine.

American teacher and Thai students new confirmed cases in Thailand

Thailand logged seven new imported cases of Covid-19 in state quarantine.

The other new confirmed case was an American teacher, who arrived on July 31.

There were 15 positives in one day from repats in quarantine recently. The average daily figure seems like ~ 5, but varies based on the number of flights.

There have been many foreign nationals testing positive.

Two new cases foreigners from Serbia, Denmark

So by any standard that is a small number even considering the number of people being allowed into the Country.
I myself just completed a 14 day quarantine with my family so we have been watching the situation closely.

Four Thais, one American found to have Covid-19 in state quarantine

The government’s Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) reported five new cases in state quarantine over a 24-hour period today (August 12), the 79th day Thailand has seen no domestic case since May.

The latest cases are a 50-year-old American man found positive on August 10 in alternative state quarantine, three male students (aged 23-29) who returned from Egypt on the same flight that reported six previous cases, and an 18-year-old male student who came home from India.

Meh. Don't hold your breath. "Once the world is ready. Until we meet again".

It's more of a reminder, to maintain brand awareness. Two minutes long, shown often here on CNN, FSP, etc.

The usual TAT tropes.

New COVID-19 infections in Thailand jump to 17

Thailand recorded 17 new COVID-19 cases today, all in state quarantine, with 15 of them being Thais who have recently returned from India.

According to the CCSA, the cases from India include nine males and six females, aged from 12 to 72. They arrived in Thailand on August 8th, on the same flight as two other passengers who were earlier found to be infected.

All 15 tested positive for COVID-19 on August 12th, while they were in state quarantine in Chon Buri province, and are asymptomatic.

Is Thailand's tourism been badly affected? and if so, any idea when it will start picking up again? I have a flight booked in November, thinking about cancelling it if its going to be quiet over there.

Yes. There are no, none, zero, nada international tourist arrivals. There are some tourists stuck here, who, for the most part, need to exit by 26 Sep.

Who knows when tourists might be allowed? 2H2021 maybe?

Your flight is in November of this year? Not gonna happen.

I agree with transpac that it is unlikely that the borders open up by November, which will be another devastating blow to the already struggling tourism sector and economy.

That said, if on the odd chance things do open up, I would say that it being quiet would be all the more reason to stick with the plan and go!
