Smoking ban in all airports

On 3rd Feb , the Thai authorities introduced a smoking ban inside all airports . Although the ban has been in place for domestic departures for some time , it is now in force for international departures as well . Beware , the fine is 5000 Baht .

Six Thai airports declared no smoking zones from 3 February 2019

Bangkok, 7 February, 2019 – The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is advising all tourists and travellers who are planning air travel via the kingdom’s six major airports that all smoking rooms inside the terminals have been closed from 3 February, 2019.

The six airports are Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang, Phuket, Chiang Mai, Hat Yai and Mae Fah Luang Chiang Rai, all operated and managed by the Airports of Thailand (AOT).

Any idea if your still allowed to smoke in the Miricle lounges. The lounge by gate G2 is included ,( which I can understand as being no smoking now ) but the one on concourse D , actually has an outside garden attached . Does anybody know if that's closed as well. I did e-mail Miricle group , but have had no reply

Prepare for restrooms to become even more commonly used as ashtrays, particularly as China-flights increase...

In principle, this is great news but as you observe ... enforcement will be an issue

To try and cater to all, AoT are now arranging smoking areas outside the passenger buildings in the six airports.

Thats all well and good , but as as you and I both know , you can generally smoke outside all buildings anyway , there are at least 7 smoking areas outside departures at Suvarnabhumi.....The problem is after you've spent 30- 60 minutes getting through immigration to depart ( I'm one of the lucky ones , who have fast track ) , then what happens . Typical Thai logic , act before thinking . Nowhere does it say if these areas are inside ( outside ) after passport control . Even LHR have now got cages smokers can visit once past immigration ......My Thai wife has tried several times to get an answer , to no avail .....Looks like I will be off to an empty gate , to use the restrooms there

I am under the impression that the newest smoking laws, effective 1 Feb. 2019, ban smoking within 5 meters outside all public buildings. This includes condos, rental buildings, pubs, hotels, religious buildings, karaoke establishments, restaurants, laundries, salons, cinemas, parking areas, spas, areas for Thai massage, clinics, hospitals, schools, swimming pools, fitness parks, clinics and ‘other places’. The regulations also specify precisely where internal smoking areas in buildings may be located.

I think smoke alarms will be set off, assuming they're functional if one smokes in the loo.

I assume they'll set up smoking areas somewhere, outside, and away from the exits?

In addition to cigarettes and a lighter maybe carry an extra 5,000 baht?

Phuket airport offers reward for catching wayward smokers

PHUKET: Any person who catches someone smoking outside a designated smoking area at Phuket International Airport now stands to receive B1,500 reward for reporting the transgression.
