When will the burn start this year in Northern Thailand?

My partner and I are travelling to Thailand in February and want to begin in the north to see the mountains and take in the scenery. we know that as the month goes on they tend to start the big burn but that this changes every year depending on how dry it is. We have provisionally the 4th, 10th and 18th as potential arrival dates.

It is a toss up between going earlier to avoid the haze for certain but potentially more cost, business and less planning time or the opposite. would the 10th be a good compromise and still give us a good chance we'd probably avoid the haze?

Earlier would be better. Are you talking 2019 or 2020?

Some guys on another forum have mentioned they've some places have start burning already in the north.

Oh no really? Good i wonder if it might be better to go later on or just leave it until November now!

Early February the chances of haze/smog should still be small, However, even if you experience some haze I doubt it will ruin anything for you. The north/around Chiang Mai is still very nice.

4 or 10 Feb will be around CNY and there will be a lot of Chinese tourists - I would be more concerned about the hordes of tourists there and hotels being sold out.

Saw this 'dashboard' from Rajamangla University, so assume the measurements are from that campus which is a ~ 3 Km northwest of the center.

But it is starting to get bad in the north with the annual burn. I was in Lamphang and Phrae yesterday and it was quite hazy with PM2.5 > 150.

In khon kaen now very bad here , planes being deployed today to make rain , to little to late as usual by the Thai authorities , who don't really care

Nationwide ban starting tomorrow ( Friday) , as stated in Wednesday's Bangkok post which just gives the farmers enough time to light their fires for another night .....as said before , the government don't really care ,and the people clueless as to what their doing

How is the current situation in BKK? Improved since a couple of weeks ago? Expecting to arrive next weekend and would like to avoid using mask when outside.
