London - Melbourne - Thailand - London

In August - Planning on 2 weeks in Melbourne then stopping for some sun in Bangkok on way back for a few nights.
2 adults/2kids in Y
For 4nights is it worth to schlep to Hua Hin or chill out in a decent hotel in Bangkok with pool.
Or any other beach locations easy accessible from BKK
Is Pattaya best avoided?
thanks

If you are looking for sun / beach, then the trip to Hua Hin would easily be worth it for 4 nights. Bangkok would be a much different experience. Really depends on what you are looking for in the trip. Ages of the kids might be a factor as well.

With 4 nights, I would also be tempted to look at Phuket. Easy / cheap access with flights from BKK, or even a direct flight from Melbourne would be possible. Are you looking for point redemption for hotel / lodging, or any of the flights?

Overall, Phuket is a much better beach when compared to Pattaya. August would be rainy season, though it typically doesn't wipe out entire days.

I would not swim in Pattaya though Jomtien has decent beaches.

Agreed, though Jomtien beaches are getting a bit sketchy at times as well. Koh Larn is a much better choice for a fun and easy beach trip from Pattaya.
Though for the OPs question, I think Hua Hin or Phuket are better choices for 4 night visit with kids.

There are western food options in all tourist areas. Most Thai restaurants will have western food options. You just pay double for the 'privilege'. But still cheap by western standards.

I always suggest people look out for the Black Canyon chain of restaurants in most big shopping centres. Simple well presented Thai food as well as things that kids will eat. Big picture menus in English so you know what you're getting. Just skip anything that says 'spicy' - they're not kidding.

Hua Hin would be a good option. But hire a car to get around. There are things to see, and always the beach to fall back on.
Bangkok could be hit or miss. Heat pollution and noise may not go down well. Of course you could all lie by the pool for 4 days.
Avoid Pattaya and Jomtien. Hua Hin is the closest decent beach with decent facilities close to Bangkok by road. Unless you fly. Then Phuket (except Patong) or Krabi.
