I'll look into LH, BR, and CX routes and times. May have to depart from JFK

I went to EVA's website, and all the options from BWI are 30 hours and route through SFO.

How about this option? Just under 24 hours

Transfers in China are quite challenging @:-)

Maybe if you speak the language it may be better, but my experiences were less than stellar and would not recommend them. And I've been to a country or two ....

CrazyInteg, the flight spans two days +1 on first leg +2 on second leg.

i.e., leave IAD 11PM Wednesday, arrive IST Thursday4:45PM, layover in IST 3h55
Depart IST 8:10PM Thursday, arrive BKK 9:25AM Friday.
This flight spans three days Wed-Thursday-Fri.....not good

I m looking for >24hr next day (i.e.,Wednesday-Thursday)+1

One of the best routes/times is on

EVA
BR31 JFK 12:20 AM Thursday - TPE 5:15AM Friday (+1)
Layover
BR75 TPE 8:53AM Friday - BKK 11:21AM Friday

Approx 23:15H Duration 1 stop

you can tack on a flight to JFK. B6 and DL fly IAD-JFK or AA or DL from DCA. I've done that a number of times to do a connection to CX. You just need to make sure you put in plenty of padding since you'll likely be on separate tickets depending on the partner connection. (I always do AA-CX so it's all one ticket)

But I prefer arriving late at night as I said. So flying via NRT from IAD works best for me when there's availability on NH. I did the UA PEK connection a couple of times - but I despise UA and PEK airport connections so I wouldn't personally do it again. If you are paying cash and just wanted to get there quickly it probably makes the most sense to do a 1-stop out of IAD.

I don't understand. You want to leave a bit after midnight instead of 11pm? What's the difference?

+1

The two day flight is a red herring, as it's one day plus one hour, moreover you arrive in BKK much earlier @:-)

Don't do it....

Domestic-to-international transfer at JFK does not have airside transfer, so you'd be re-clearing security at the international terminal. I did that once for BOS-JFK-TPE because I wanted the early AM arrival. Mistake. Even with EVA online check-in, I still had to wait in line to get a paper BP. A shorter line, but still another line. :(

If you want to book an EVA near-midnight flights, do it out of SFO/LAX where airside transfer is possible. You can book domestic for IAD/BWI to SFO/LAX and then pick up the int'l leg from there.

While I don't prefer it, I've gotten used to the late night arrivals and early morning departures. I hate paying for a hotel room night when arriving around midnight and another one when leaving at six in the morning. While there is something nice about just going to the hotel, unpacking, taking a shower and going to bed, I still prefer getting to the hotel, taking a nap and still having the first, extra night. But I do whichever flight is cheapest, which can be from the east or the west.

It isn't smooth and easy, but it's not all that hard, either. Flying in on DL it's easier to walk outside than take the train to get to the International terminal. I've gotten stuck in line checking in for Aeroflot, but even that's not as bad as the backups I've experienced at immigration and security in China.

Agree, MU is service wise a step ahead of most US airlines, and have a great safety record. I would not hesitate
