It's cold out there
 

I usually tease my family when they whine about it being cold in Chaiyaphum. But this time it looks like it's for real. Temps fell as low as 10 C last night. My little niece was so cold after she took her shower in the morning she was crying.

For me 10 C is Spring weather. But in Thailand they're just not used to it.

If you're headed north this week or next, probably good idea to take a good coat.

It's 11 C in Chiang Mai this morning (windy/rain). Starts to warm up again tomorrow, though....and will be 31 C again by the middle of next week.

Earlier this month, it was supposedly warmer than usual in Bangkok for this time of year.

This cold snap is by far the coldest I've experienced in Bangkok in ~ 15 years. Feel for the locals, and folks in the country, who are unused to the low temps (lots of people getting sick and dying), and don't have hot water heaters.

The good news is that things should normalize (high: 35, low: 25) as the week progresses. By the time you get here you won't need a coat. If you're here already it's honestly not that bad (low of 15).

Was also reading big chunks of Asia were currently getting their worst cold snap in years: Taiwan, Japan, China/HKG, South Korea. Curious if both are effects of this big El Nino year??

Came in, through HKG when it was 3C, a couple of days ago. Last night, at my regular haunt, everyone was wearing jackets. Except me of course. :D

Some friends are playing gigs in Issan and are in UBP right now. This is not what they expected. Oh to be in Ubon warming up by eating copious amounts of aum moo, kaw moo yang and tam bu pla ra.
