Interesting "next step" on my BIL's visa. They turned him down (kind of expected that because he doesn't have a good job here). But they didn't tell him that was why he was turned down. They didn't give him a reason at all, just said he didn't qualify. Then, on the paper they gave him, invited him to pay the money and try again once he fixed the problem.
You have a problem. We won't tell you what it is. But if you fix it you can try again.
Only a bureaucrat could think like that.

Handling visa applicants is not customer service. It's weeding out applicants who didn't follow procedure or who don't stand a chance of getting a visa, so the agency can process those did follow procedure and do qualify. In my 5 1/2 years in Thailand I've known 3 men who pulled out their hair and ranted at not being able to get a tourist visa for their wives. By the time they realized their only option was to apply again and what that meant if they failed, all three sought a visa law specialist. The same man who posts occasional tips on the local expat forum. The same man who says the number one problem with his customers are errors in applications.
