That's the Pavilion of the Enlightened in the Ancient City outside of Bangkok.

Is the Ancient City a collection of temples andnothe tourist sights ? Would you say its worth a visit?

I've never been. It seems to get good reviews on TripAdvisor, and you can Google around for "Muang Boran" for more descriptions.

Okay I'll look into it. Thanks!

I can't see the photo but if it is at the Ancient City (Meuang Boran) , then it is definitely worth a visit, IMO. Easy to get to from Bangkok, in Samut Prakan.

To me it sounded like a total tourist trap, and I was reluctant to go, but I did, and have to say that it is very, very impressive.

Re-creations, supposedly historically researched and accurate, of (in most cases, long gone) famous structures in various parts of Thailand, laid out roughly on a map of Thailand.

Be careful over there on the east, at #72, in Cambodia. ;)

Oh sorry yes it is Muang Boran. I will check it out when I return to BKK next month! How easy is it to catch a taxi back to BKK? I went to Erawan Musuem (the three headed elephant one, not the one in downtown BKK), and I had to wait a while before a taxi showed up.

I think both the Erawan Museum and the Ancient City were created by the same person/family/group?

There may be taxis waiting inside the Ancient City, or maybe they can call for one, or dropping people off? I drove my own car, which we also took inside the park, which makes it very easy to get around vs. walking, biking; they also have golf carts.

Maybe use the GrabTaxi/Car, Uber apps? Or at least have them on your phone.

Yes. They, along with the Sanctuary of Truth near Pattaya, were the creation of what Wikipedia describes as an "eccentric millionaire," Khun Lek Viriyaphant. IIRC he made his money in one or more Mercedes dealerships.

If you're down that way, the Sanctuary of Truth is a must see.

I visited Muang Boran my first visit to Thailand and enjoyed it very much. It's big. We took a golf cart to get around but you can also go by bicycle if you are so inclined.
