Gaggan and Asia's 50 Best Restaurants

The San Pellegrino list recently named it number 1 in Asia and I guess rightfully so. I love it. Not that I'll be going back anytime soon, since getting a table without months of advance planning will now be close to impossible. But as I read through the entire list, there are a few places here in Bangkok (and other cities I travel to...but that's another discussion) that I think deserve to be on it and aren't. And there are a few on it that based on my experiences, shouldn't be. Keeping in mind that lists are just lists and opinions are just opinions....

I would say that Siam Wisdom should definitely be there, but maybe being relatively new, it wasn't considered. I never understood Bo.Lan or Issaya Siamese Club...they just didn't do it for me (I've only been to each once), whereas Nahm and Eat Me never disappoint.

What do you other locals and visitors think should be on the list that isn't? Or shouldn't be on it at all?

Gaggan is interesting, but I was surprised to see it on the list at all.

Really the only restaurant in Bangkok I've been to that has in any way lived up to its hype. Was there again last year after a one year hiatus, and it was as excellent as I remembered; many new dishes too.

I wrote a few words and put some photos of it here: http://memorable.voyage/2016/02/27/r...aggan-bangkok/

Nahm and Issaya were so-so for me (only tried each once) whereas I love Eat Me, Bo.Lan, and Gaggan.

However, posts like this is why I love FT... I read this thread and go straight to Siam Wisdom for a reservation.

Thank you ExpatBKK! :-:

No. 1 (in Asia) again.

Gaggan tops Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list

Gaggan in Bangkok has claimed the top spot on the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list for the second year running. Three other Thai restaurants also made it onto the 2016 Asia's best 50 list, published by...
