transpac - Thank you for posting. Of course, as mentioned in these links, this new "security" policy makes no sense. No wonder people are missing flights if you have to arrive 2 1/2 hours early for a domestic flight!

3.5 hours early? OUCH!

3.5 hours is a little ridiculous! What's a person supposed to do in DMK for 3.5 hours? Even I can only stomach so many Krispy Kreme donuts before a flight.

My guess, yes, this is just a guess, is that they do not have the high-volume, high-speed CTX scanners at DMK like they do at BKK, and that they have been a bit lax with security measures in the past. And given recent incidents and focus/attention, these new security measures are necessary.

Quote: http://englishnews.thaipbs.or.th/tig...-at-don-mueang

Airport source said this measure is not new but is not strictly enforced in the past.

Under this regulation, all bags taken into the check-in areas must be first X-rayed.

Typical lack of planning, getting caught out and then trying to recover. Welcome to Thailand.

This appears to be the same policy in place at CNX and a few other airports. I recall having a 30 min wait to enter HDY a few years ago because of this policy but the DMK situation is likely fusterclukked from too many pax and too few entrances.

Well that didn't last long...but this article is still a bit confusing, maybe wait a few days to see how things shake out, and still plan to get to DMK early?

Don Mueang drops carry-on bag screenings amid delays

Airports of Thailand has dropped newly imposed security measures for all flights at Don Mueang airport after carry-on luggage screenings caused hours-long delays.

AOT lifts new rule after chaos

Strict baggage screening at Don Mueang scrapped after long delays

AIRPORTS OF Thailand yesterday hastily called off its strict screening measures at Don Mueang International Airport, which it had just imposed on Friday, after they caused mayhem, with passengers languishing behind long queues and many almost missing their flights.

The revised rules required not only checked-in luggage but also carry-ons to be X-rayed before entering the departure area.

Last time I was at DMK, the whole place was completely clusterfcked by unruly mainland Chinese and everyone was just waived through security with no scan. That's the only reason that I made my plane and I got there at 4 am, 2 & 1/2 hrs early !

Expect Thailand's airlines to be severly limited in the

Looks like the DCA/Government is giving up by looking for parking spaces for planes rather than trying to correct the safety issues by the deadline (2nd extension?)

http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/general/631668/prepare-for-bans-aot-tells-airports

I mean the government could be making a last ditch attempt at correcting the issues, or I guess it's easier to just give up and find places to park the planes:

I have flights booked on TG in September... but I feel this will hurt the country more then my personal travel plans.

This type of advanced or contingency planning is unheard of here in Thailand. Usually they wait until long after horse has bolted before taking any action (See TiP, slavery, fishing, IP, drought/floods, ad nauseum) AoT should probably be applauded for this but I suspect they will be reprimanded by the Junta, for causing fear/panic.

I've got to believe they have enough room at BKK, UTP, DMK and HKT, but one assumes they done the maths and identified potential problems?

Drought to drag on for six months, say experts

The Nation July 27, 2015 1:00 am

THE DEVASTATING drought currently affecting Thailand could drag on until the middle of next year due to what experts are calling the mother of all El Ninos.

"The effects of El Nino will become stronger and last until next February, which means lower precipitation than what Thailand usually gets from the Pacific Ocean," said Chawalit Chantararat, managing director of Team Group.
