I know this website is dedicated to flying, however Thailand is now giving 30-day visa exempt stamp on land crossings. Nice!

Royal Thai Immigration Bureau has confirmed to Thaivisa.com that holders of passports of UK, USA, Japan, Germany, France, Canada and Italy are since November 1, 2013 given 30 days at land borders instead of previously only 15 days.

It might be nice or it might simply be necessary as a precursor to the 500Baht entry fee... further giving Thailand the 'tourist park' feel.

FYI, Anti-Amnesty Bill protesters are staging a protest today at Asoke. It was/is a complete mess. BTS station impassable. Maybe best to avoid that area today. BTS trains very full with arriving protesters.

Thai Airways International (THAI) today issued a statement banning the use of its headquarters on Vibhavadi Rangsit to hold any political activities that could jeopardize its businesses.

And it did nothign to stop 1000+ employees.

http://www.bangkokpost.com/breakingn...at-head-office

Also in yesterday's fun, the PM issued several announcements including that the amnesty push was ended and that the 6 current amnesty bills in the House would be pulled back.

http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/loca...rs-please-stop

Without getting into a back and forth about who's on the higher pedestal here, and likely we all have our views steadfast as do the Thais, this attempt to appease the protesters didn't take into account the current bill in the Senate, that one is still active!

Also, for those of you not familiar with Thai Parliamentary procedure, a bill passed by the House and voted down by the Senate can subsequently be passed again by the House after a 180 day period and then becomes law.*

All in all I'll use the (famous) line from the old Connect 4 commercial in reference to Ms Yingluck: Pretty sneaky sis.

*I found this difficult to believe but have heard it from a number of sources and am inclined to believe it true unless someone cares to refute it.

Passed through Asoke yesterday (to go to Citibank) and noticed nothing! Weird, although maybe that was Weds and I'm messing up the time zones?

The protests on Wednesday were centered around Ratchadamnoen and Silom. It spread to Asok on Thursday.

Rough days ahead! http://uk.news.yahoo.com/thailand-br...3.html#GCrH2Zr

The protesters include ultra nationalists and royalists who have used the spat with Cambodia in previous years to whip up anger against Thaksin, with tacit backing from top military generals who overthrew him in a 2006 coup.

Today looks to be another bad day re: protests, as the Senate delayed dealing with the Amnesty Bill from Friday to today. Some sites have been identified, some remain "undisclosed".

Some Thai neighbors said to avoid Asoke again today (Monday, Nov. 11) at mid-day.

Also, the Preah Vihear decision is due today at 4:00 PM local time, so that could end up being a double-whammy.

Anti-amnesty groups step up rallies in bid to topple PM

In another move by the anti-amnesty movement to pile up pressure on the Pheu Thai-led government, demonstrators belonging to the People's Army Against the Thaksin Regime camping at the Phan Fa Lilat Bridge will this morning march to three undisclosed locations. The largest anti-amnesty rally is being held at Democracy Monument.

Four newly formed groups, rallying their supporters through the social media, have also announced separate marches to be held today on several Bangkok streets. The first group, calling itself the Civil Community, vowed to gather in front of the Silom Complex at noon and begin a march at 12.34pm.

They will be joined by marchers from the Asoke Community, the Ratchadaphisek Community and a group based in the Saphan Khwai and Aree areas, in a march to Rajdamnoen Avenue to meet up with those currently rallying at the Democracy Monument under the guidance of the opposition Democrat Party. Meanwhile, former leaders of the yellow-shirt People’s Alliance for Democracy Sondhi Limthongkul and Chamlong Srimuang will hold a press conference on the political situation today at 10.30am.

FYI, opposition party has called for:

A nationwide strike or slowdown for public and private sector for whole country for November 13-15 and join the protests

among other things so for those here currently just a heads up.

And some old Yellows are beating the nationalistic drum in response to the ICJ ruling on Preah Vihear, which was favorable to Cambodia.
