yeah, tmobile coverage was kinda sluggish in BKK (reading twitter, emails, texts re fine, but you can forget about idea of using instagram, facebook, snapchat!).

Anyways, i'll translate arrival level into thai then copy / paste into text for driver. Hopefully my 0800ish arrival won't be an issue, and would like to leverage uber/starwoods partnership

Oh right, you need mobile data for the Uber app. I was thinking you just needed to ring the waiting driver. I've never used T-Mo here for mobile data, but you should be able to get 3G service although it might be expensive?

Arrivals is on level 2, this is the level you exit from Arriving Immigration/Baggage Claim/Customs. You have to head to the right to get to the area where the waiting public has access.

My post paid T-Mobile (USA),uses DTAC 95% of the time here in central Bangkok, but varies betwen 3g/4g and very sluggish depending upon time of day, should work for UBER easily though.

That would be silly. He will speak English.

Oh really? i think someone mentions that driver might not speak english. I can just copy thai and stash it away in my iphone's note, in case.

i'll go with my tmobile, and will report back about my uber experience (hopefully, wait isnt too long!).

I just checked Uber's Thai site for a trip from Silom to BKK and it came back as THB575. That seems to be more than the taxis.

Does this include tolls?

It just gave an estimate but seemed to be for the total, so probably.

rbAA is there a reason to expect it to be less than a taxi?

When I use the fare estimator on the Uber site it seems to return

500 THB for Uber X, and 1,000 THB for UberBLACK.

for many/most/all addresses in the city, incl. DMK, going to SBIA/BKK. When I got closer to the river (Phra Nakhon), and even across it (Thon Buri) is showed 575/1,075, so not sure how to interpret that increase?

I'm not sure if the includes any tolls, assuming you were to use a toll/motor/express-way.

A taxi-metered fare will vary based on originating point, and given the recent fare increase, might be in the ~ 300 THB range; +/- 35 THB, from Si Lom to SBIA/BKK before any tolls, or dispatch fee (20 THB for phone rez, 25 THB for GrabTaxi).

didn't catch uber when i landed BKK . No uber car near BKK for 10 mins while waiting for my bag, so I just gave up and catch taxi, which cost 315 THB despite horrible traffic into Suk.
