Just to confirm that the BMA Gold line (APM) did open yesterday and the final 9/8km section of the BTS Sukhumvit line northern ext opened to Khu Khot. Both sections are free for the next month.
2021 openings
The next lines to open for limited trial operations will be the SRT Dark Red and SRT Light Red lines in March 2021 for a period of 3 months.
Thereafter, the first stages of the MRT Pink line and MRT Yellow line will open in Oct 2021

Three questions
Any word on what's happening with the albatross aka the Makkasan Airport Express station?
Also, any word on a transit card - or even a mobile app - that would make for seamless transfers between the airport/BTS/metro systems?
Thirdly, has anyone ever taken rail to DMK?

Makassan remains a potential eastern (high-speed?) "rail hub" in waiting. Continues to serve commuters connecting to the MRT/ARL. Several development projects (malls, condos, etc.) proposed for all the adjacent land which the SRT "owns".
Pretty sure the Spider (mangmoom) card is dead. It's been five years, still nothing. Saw some news about a potentail universal card. So still no card.
The new red line will serve DMK. Currently SRT trains originating at Hua Lumphong to the north and norteast pass/stop at DMK, so you can still take rail to DMK. Watch the video below as the green line extension has a station (N23) at the NE corner of DMK, and there is some mention of using this and a shuttle bus for connections until the red line opens?

Ya, I was just wondering about the reliability of the current DMK train, when compared to the usual road traffic.

All those maps posted here show that, at some point in the future, the Orange line (Eastern extension) will go to Min Buri, from the Blue Line MRT at Thailand Cultural Center. Construction underway.
For now, take a car.

Not being too familiar with the DMK area, given that the Sukhumvit line was very recently extended to that airport's posterior, would Bangkok residents say that happened first because the taxi mafia is powerful, or because airport traffic was diminished this year (or simply, the BTS just isn't THERE yet)?
Unrelated question about the DMK area-- there's a trippy building just to the north of it, roughly along short final (approach). It looks like a square with one temple directly in the center; anyone know what it is?

Remember, DMK was supposed to be shuttered, permanently, and the RTAF would "develop" the land.

BTS does go to the airport, but it's the back side of the airport. Last year there was talk of building another monorail to connect one of the now opened BTS stations to DMK as well. Not sure if they are still planning that or not. You can see those new BTS stations in one of the videos transpac posted.

There's a long history of updated rail to DMK and beyond, but the SRT (State Rail of Thailand) has always owned the right of way that the expressway and highway underneath the expressway follow. For years when DMK was BKK before the new BKK was built, there were columns built for a new rail project that ended up being abandoned and had to be ripped out for the new red line and high speed rail projects. I'm sure somebody here can point you to that history.
In spite of the corruption involved with that one, at least Bangkok's public transit has seen a useful expansion over the years.
I'm a bit more familiar with Jakarta, and it surely holds the regional record for dubious mass transit projects.
