Real time hotel conditions/traffic blockages
Since the "safety" thread keeps getting unnecessary political commentary, let's use this thread as a supplement to Richard Barrow's feed to stay updated by people on the ground.
What hotels are you staying at right now and what is the protest situation like at your hotel?
What traffic issues did you personally see on the ground, where are there roadblocks or streets/intersections closed by protesters that you saw personally?

Staying on Sukhumvit Soi 11 for the last 2 weeks..
No problem regarding getting to and from both airports.. Intersection at Soi 1 is open.
Regarding Asok the blockade begins from Soi 19 ( Soi 19 is open to traffic )
Occasionally Soi 11 gets very busy with traffic if there is a protest march on Sukhumvit..
No problem getting to the shopping areas as the Skytrain is running normally ( although a bit busier as usual )

ive been in bangkok for the past 9 days.
there are some roads closed.
as many know.
from central chidlom all the way to the national stadium
MBK phatumwan princess hotel until phraya thai.
from four seasons hotel (rachaprasong) to pratuunam intersection.
asok is closed in all directions
victory monument is closed
lad prao intersection is closed.
if you want to get around the blockages its possible, but expect traffic. it takes time and patience.

From aBroadAbroad not too long ago:
Mr Abroad had a meeting today near The Four Seasons that could not be rescheduled.
Took the Skytrain to Chidlom, stayed on skywalk to cut through Hyatt, exited at main doors on Ratchadamri (this is our usual route to get to St Regis).
No problems, no delays, uneventful, but would still have chosen to stay home had he been able to avoid going.

Getting to the Four Seasons or St. Regis or Grand Hyatt Erawan or Courtyard Marriott
If you're taking the train exit Chidlom or Rachadamri and walk to the hotels.
If you're driving use Witthayu road and get to Sarasin Alley and then turn right onto Rachadamri road. You can get to the hotel with a taxi like that.
Getting to the Intercontinental BKK and Holiday Inn BKK is a little more time cosuming as you need to drive through the closed road area.

My wife flew into Don Muang from Phuket yesterday. No problems there, but traffic getting to our apartment was murder.
The protesters announced that "Mob Suthep" is planning on abandoning to of its protest locations (Lad Prao and Victory Monument) today. Traffic will be a mess as they march through the streets. They are planning to consolidate those 2 sites with the existing site at Lumpini which will make that area even worse. (And as fate would have it, that's where my apartment sits).
This will probably make the hotel situation around Ratchprasong worse as that site is only a 15 minute walk from Lumpini so they may decide to combine those sites and just shut down Rajdamri. The Intercontinental and neighboring hotels will likely remain available by BTS.

[QUOTE=Tchiowa;22273854]There is a Sukhumvit Soi 1. When you get off the highway (which airport taxi would generally get off here if coming from airport to this neighborhood), it's immediately after the railroad tracks. You can go down the soi, cut through the hospital to get to Soi 3/Nana Nua (which is a one way). No one really would go this way unless they want to cut across Soi 3 to get to Soi 11 (which I tend to do if there's traffic backup) and the interconnecting soi's in that neighborhood. Just wanted to answer your question for future reference-gotta go as I don't want to be accused of hijacking this thread

Monday Bkk local time update: Mrs. walked down Wireless Rd to Chidlom Central Dept store, did some grocery shopping [sneaking some cut up durian to room, LOL]. Very quiet again.
Front desk continues to caution against traversing over to Grand Hyatt area....
She might 'venture' to walk the above ground BTS route to Siam Paragon in the next few days.....
