Of course it does.
A high end bottle of wine is outrageously priced in Thailand.....bringing in four bottles of your own wine without paying the exorbitant Thailand tax on wine would amount to significant cost savings over the same situation involving four bottles of beer. (eyeroll right back at you)

Usually I bring one half and one bottle, to match the custom allowance. If we travel in group we bring the total allowance.
Wine storage can be a disaster in Asia, price can be 3 time more in shop and 10 time more in restaurant, and to buy high end bottle not ready to drink, what is the point ?
At least my wine are ready to drink give me pleasure and we enjoy with friends, and I don't feel ripped off.

Well, if I buy today in Switzerland its 4200 THB for one bottle of Chateau Beychevelle 2010 bordeaux st-julien, "wine merchant" sell it 11800 THB...
(If I bought it years ago it was probably half price of today Swiss price, so for me the ratio is worst)
Most of the french bordeaux wine proposed by wine merchant, lower priced, are mostly export production with unknown label.
No miracle wine is a luxury product for the Thai custom and heavily taxed, until it change, bring your own.
