Another overnight stay thread
Arriving BKK at 5:15pm on Nov 9 and leaving 7:35am Nov 10. Need recommendations for hotel (chain hotel since I will be using points. Hilton, Amex, carlson, PC, SPG).
Also need suggestions for restaurant and places to visit in the evening. I searched and went through 15 pages but most of the threads refer to people arriving midnight and leaving early morning or day trip only. Thanks in advance for the suggestions |
I'm not familiar with all of the hotel programs. But Starwood has lots of options around the city. Since it's just a quick overnight I would probably stay as cheaply as I could points-wise. So maybe the aloft on Sukhumvit 11 which is about a year old so should still be nice and fresh. I stayed right after it opened (and construction was on-going still) and there were definitely some kinks that needed to be worked out. But I suspect they have been. Or there is also the Four Points Sheraton on Sukhumvit 15 that seemed to get pretty good marks.
There are millions of places to eat. Since you in town just one night I assume you are looking for Thai food. But there's a really good Italian place very near to the aloft mentioned above if you are into that. |

Or you could party all night, get something to eat, then go to the airport.
No points used, and high fun factor. :D^ |

Thanks for the info. I did see the Aloft and 4 points and will book one of them. Do you have any suggestions on the transport to and from the airport to the hotel? Just take a cab? We will have a carry-on so taking a train is also an option.
Taxi should probably be fine. Arriving that time of day traffic into town shouldn't be bad until you get off the expressway (if you intend to take the expressway...you will need to pay the tolls in that case). I would guess traffic will be heavy in town though. On the way back to the airport Saturday morning the trip would be quite quick. I usually spend a little more and book a car service. But it's probably not necessary. |
a taxi into town is about $12 , so that the easy way , 30-40 minutes to get into town
normally I would say get a hotel less than 5 minute walk from BTS or MRT Subway , , BUT the BTS does not run all night , and the morning airport BTS - Train does not start early enough for you to get to the airport in time I am not sure what you plan on doing but Chinatown is interesting :) |
Here's a little BBC report about the aloft Sukhumvit 11 and their interesting use of technology
