Phuket - Need 4 Night Itinerary Help

I've been reading through a lot of the information in the Thailand Forum and it all just seems so overwhelming...so maybe you guys can help me narrow some things down and suggest things to do based on what we're expecting

Me and two friends(all aged 22) will be going to Phuket for 4 nights and Bangkok for 3 nights in the beginning of June...we're students so we definitely don't want to do excessive splurging, but are willing to spend money on worthwhile things to do

I'm trying to plan out the Phuket portion of this trip, but would definitely appreciate any help/advice

Here are some things that we know we want from this trip: Relaxing on the beach, snorkeling/diving, partying/drinking, eating a lot of good eats + exotic food, elephant trekking, visiting one of the smaller islands, and maybe do some adventure type activities or visiting scenic places

So from the given information how do you guys recommend going about the logistics/specifics of things to do? ie when, where, how
From what I gather, it seems like we can just go to any of the booths on the street and book things we want to do?

Also, I'd appreciate any recommendations for hotel accommodations for the 3 of us...I've been searching on Agoda.com but I'm unsure of what our ideal location/beach would be. Preferably we don't want to spend more than 150 per night

Thanks in advance! Any help would definitely ease planning on my part :D

It's definitely worth it to read the forums.

You can get some reviews of tours on tripadvisor.com. But I would wait to reserve your tours/activities after you arrive (forget about the internet options). Shop around and don't be shy about haggling on tours (a 20-30% discount is possible, in my experience).

June is low season. If you want to save money, you should just find a guesthouse. They'll have AC, ensuite bathroom, and are big enough. You don't need to pay more than about 600 baht per room ($18) if you don't want to. You can easily find one after you arrive, on or near Rat-u-thit road (if we're talking Patong, and I think we should be talking Patong in your case).

If you don't want to wait to book, or want a sure room for the first night, you can get good rates a month in advance on wotif.com, latestays.com, and ratestogo.com.

Enjoy the land of smiles...
