The answer to your query is "yes". For international flights, you can reserve seats when you make the booking on TG's website or through your travel agent
. For domestic flights, you can not reserve seats when you purchase your ticket
. However, you can select your seat 24hrs prior to the flight using the e-checkin facility on TG's website. Hope this helps.........

Go to www.thaiair.com then click on the link to "Check Your Booking". The reservation number will be a six character code and you will have 2 (one for the TG system and one for the Amadeus system) both should work then enter your last name in the other field. This should bring up the details of your flight and a link to your seating.

i think u need the Amadeus number to do it on the thai website, the TG ref number wont work, but u can use the TG ref for online checkin, u will be able to checkin online and select ur seat 24 hours prior to the flight

Your Travel Agent can indeed make seat requests for the international sectors as you previously experienced, but the domestic sectors cannot be pre-allocated. That might explain why your TA couldn't apparently help you (or get a decent TA!!!).
The codes go something like (from most flexible to least flexible) from the Star Alliance thread:
TG Thai
FC : FAPZ O
*F : FAP O
BC : CDRJL I
*B : CDRJZ I
E+ : U
EC : YBMHQNVWSTGK X
*E : YBMHQVWNTKS X
Key
FC : First Class
*F : First Class listed in 2008 *A Reference Guide
BC : Business Class
*B : Business Class listed in 2008 *A Reference Guide
E+ : Premium Economy Class
*+ : Premium Economy Class listed in 2008 *A Reference Guide
EC : Economy Class
*E : Economy Class listed in 2008 *A Reference Guide
in regular faces : paid
in red italics : awards
in red underlined : upgrades

I must call the local office to ask them to help me with seat changes.
