I'm in Thailand at the moment, going back to USA later this month. I had requalified for Gold in December, but the mileage didn't post, so I was dropped in status to Silver (by looking at my account online.) I dropprd off boarding passes for my SWISS flights that didn't post on Jan 16th, and THAI posted the mileage and changed my status back to Gold within a day or two.
After realizing that the one-way new upgrade certificate is being mailed to the address on file (in my case, USA), I called THAI ROP back around the 22nd and asked about the mailing, getting it at my THAI address, etc. They said it had gone out already on Jan 16th.
Frankly, I find it hard to believe that they would have prepared and mailed a certificate (and supposedly new Gold card) the very same day I walked into the ROP office on Vibhavadi Road in Bangkok with boarding passes that put me over the top and qualified me for Gold. But, that's what they claim . . .
Anyway, I have somebody in the States looking for an envelope from THAI, and will try to get the certificate sent over here quickly to me if it arrives in time, as I could potentially use it on my BKK>LAX flight later this month.
Odd thing about THAI mailings to me in the States is that they haven't had any dated postmark in the past, and have never come from Bangkok. I've had one postmarked from Frankfurt Germany, one from Hong Kong, and one from Malaysia.

Hi Sam,
I agree with you about not being sent on the 16th. I received mine by EMS, which only takes a few days at the most, mine arrived on the 29th Jan so I am sure only sent a few days before.
Having lived in the LOS for 10 years I can say that it would not be the first time that story tellers answer the phones much of the time and will say anything to get rid of the non Thai speaking customer.

Got mine in Finland today, mailed from Dubai.
About the conditions... It says present certificate and gold card, and valid until Dec 31. I will lose my gold in May -any guesses whether I'll be able to use it after that?

Going through the conditions it says that the upgrade voucher is valid for upgrade in C/D/J classes. When we do a GUP the upgraded class is J unlike a upgrade which is done in I.
Does anyone else think we could maybe use this for a upgrade from a GUP. I feel if we get the right agent at the right time then maybe it might be possible.

I was thinking about using my GUP to j class from LHR - Australia or NZ and then trying to use the birthday upgrade this spring/summer and will let you guys know if I have success.
Good if gold member could let us know when they get their gold envelope and how long it takes to get to all the different countries.

Because that is what they called it in the letter from Thai for the last four years.
Maybe from 2009 we should call it............
Our gratitude to you, in 2009 we are starting a new tradition, a special Gold benefit that will change from year to year
as it states in the letter.
I am sure someone can come up with a shorter name so that will help confuse some other members.
As they say it will change each year that gives us all something very important to discuss over the next 11 months!!!
