Seating for TG cattle class

Hi All,

About to embark back to BKK for another holiday with the ms.

Need some advice on seating as we are travelling cattle class Jan 27 BNE-BKK TG 992 V class.

Can anyone suggest what seats would be best for both me and the wife as I normally go for emergency exists being 6'4 and the wife will be 26 weeks pregnant.

I've been looking at seats 32 h&j or 68-70. Ideally would love 43/53 B,C,H,J due to A&K having the slide in the way of leg room. How are TG for seating pregnant woman at emergency exit isle?

Also I have some points with ROP and wondered how many I would need to upgrade to business class.

I looked on seatcounter and it read 4's across all classes.

Can anyone help?

Cheers

40,000 ROP Miles required for one way upgrade from Economy Class (V) to Royal Silk Class (Award UGI4).

Hi Nathan75, I think you both should definitely be in business, and if you have the points 80000, spend them on your mum to be.
Otherwise for around $750 you can buy a standby upgrade, BUT do the figures first, as you may already be paying 1650, add another 1500 and you are close to an advance fare in Business.
Don't go right down the back, the tail kicks and sways, the pitch is less too, and the movement around the rear toilets is continuous through the night. bulkheads they will not release until the final moment awaiting basinet enquiries, leaving your first choice of exit seats as the best solution. If this is your final pick, ensure you take some ear plugs and eye shades, like the pack from business or you would be able to buy them at a chemist. I am sure with all these in/on you will have a good sleep.
If you need to save a few dollars, leave 24 hours later as the season changes, but I guess every man and his dog has booked the first week of the new prices. hope you had an enjoyable Christmas, regards bkkrop

Thanks for the kind words.

Might explore the $750 option as I only have about 15,000 points each.

How would I go about it??

I'll also get to the airport before the check-in opens to secure the best seat, like everyone else. Any hints there? Does Silver status have any pulling power??

Can you book seats in advance?? I've heard an urban myth that you can??

I'm a bit concerned about the ms. being pregnant in regards to seating in the emergency exist, "are you willing and able to assist". Some of the people I see sitting in these seats couldn't fight their way out of a wet paper bag. My other half is quite strong even though she is expecting so will that be an issue???

Thanks
Nathan75:)

HELLO Nathan 75,

Most airlines restrict travel at 36 weeks, but are "concerned" after 32 weeks, so they, TG, will do everything possible to make your wife very confortable.

Call into your Thai office @ 145 Eagle Street, Brisbane, and the staff will allocate a seat for you.

Silver is good and ensures you extra benefits, but don't get to carried away, as TG like all the airlines want you to travel more so the real "we will spoil you rotten" happens when you hit gold, but that's one hell of a lot of travel.

How does standby upgrade work. Discuss this with TG when you call in as they will amend the booking to show that is what you will be doing. At the airport go to the station manager's office area towards the end of the check in counters or directly to the business class checkin. If there is availability they will charge you a nominal fee to upgrade on the day. This will make the flight easier for your wife, she will have a lounge (Air New Zealand) to relax in prior to departure and the extra space in c/j on the 747 will certainly be appreciated this trip. The check in at the airport opens 3 hours prior to departure. Do hope I have been of help regards bkkrop

Thanks bkkrop,

You have been a real help.

Will go and talk to Thai at there offices and see what they can do.

My wife will be about 26 weeks so I'll see what they say and we are only going for 10 days.

Can only ask.

Just got back to BKK on TG992 on New Years Eve. Air NZ lounge is very comfortable and does make the wait somewhat more bearable. Most shops in the transit area in BNE will be closed by the departure times.

Note that TG992 will be on the ancient pre Don Muang versions of the 747. No AVOD, no pitch. Just nice colourful but thin seats which are deceptively uncomfortable.

If the upgrade option fails, avoid the exit rows in the 747 as you get legroom but lose privacy. At rows 31 and 53, you get noisy galleys when the crew gets chatty while serving late night supper. Row 53/53 H, J and K are blocked by crew use. Row 43 are ok if you don't mind the smell from the toliets. If all else fails, ask to be seated behind on an empty flight so you two may score an empty row. Row 68 - 71 have limited recline.

Silver status will earn you priority baggage tags and extra luggage allowance with a sympathetic ground staff but will not change the fact that you are flying cattle class.

I assume you mean pre-Suvarnabhumi and not pre-Don Muang. I think Don Muang has been in existence for something like 90 years if my memory is correct.

...as has the interior of most TG aircraft, and a large number of premium cabin crew :D:D:D

Only joking. Please don't step on my salmon roulade in the galley :p

My folks are about to leave tonight on the 992 flight and rang to say they got the old version 747E.

I'll wait and see what they say but when I went over in August in J we got the newer version and all was ggod.

I know Thai are notorious for swaping aircraft at the last minute but that is ridiculas.

I might try my luck this week with a visit to Thai in Eagle st and have a chat with what they can help me with.
