Extra Baggage

Hi,

I am going to fly BKK-PEK in business class and from what I understand there is a 30kg baggage allowance. However, I might have up to 40kgs to bring with me. Does anyone know what they will charge me per KG of extra weight?

Also I recently bought a 'pin' (a very skinny guitar with three strings shaped like a dragon) in Isaan. How on earth can I get this on the flight with me? Is there anyway to carry it on because I will already have 2 checked bags.

Thanks :-:

First, for flights not involving USA, they do it by the weight concept, not piecewise. You can check as many pieces of luggage as you could reasonably want to, as long as the weight limit is adhered to.

Do you have any *A status? Silver gives you an extra 10kg; gold, 20kg.

However, TG has been known not to be too strict about their weight limits. Of course, that's never a sure thing.

I am a UA Premier Associate. Would that count towards an extra 10kg?

Thanks for the advice.

Do you have nay thoughts on the pin?

Correction to the advice above;

Star Gold indeed does entitle an extra 20kg,
Star silver does not entitle any extra baggage. See here: http://www.staralliance.com/en/trave...er_status.html

Being THAI ROP silver, gets an extra 10 kg, but only on THAI flights. UA status won't help.

Premier Associate is = to Star Silver Status, but that won't help you here: http://www.united.com/page/article/0,6722,51594,00.html

Carry the Pin onboard - should be OK.

Thanks for the info. Good to know. I hope the pin successfully gets to China - and then hopefully can make it onto the UA flights I have to take to get back to the US without people thinking I want to hijak the plane with a wooden dragon.

Sorry about that, I always thought it was a silver benefit, since I see it on a great many *A mileage program sites. Thanks for the correction.

While true 10kg is not a Star wide benefit, I have got away with it many times.
