Transit At Changi (help!!!)

Transit at Changi

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi,

I'm planning to go to Delhi from Perth on 16 Dec 2006. I'm looking at travelling from PERTH-SINGAPORE with SQ 224 (ECO CLASS) (leaves at 8:15am arrives at 1:25pm) and then going on Business class on Thai Airways Flight TG 414 (SIN-BKK which leaves at 3:40pm arrives 5:05pm) and catch TG 315 from BKK-DEL at 8:50pm. What do I do to make sure my buggage goes all the way to Delhi because I'm changing airlines? Should I make sure my luggage is ticketed all the way to Delhi from Perth? Can you do that as Thai and SQ are part of the same alliance

And, how do I check in for my TG flights, can I do that at the SQ check-in area at Perth or should I do that at the Singapore Airport? Please explain how this is possible as the biz class fares are incredibly cheap and don't want this opportunty go to waste.

Thanks in advance,
Josh

You should be able to check your bags through all the way to Delhi - TG and SQ are both *A partners.

You could get boarding passes for all flights in Perth, and if you have a special seat request you can simply see TG Staff in SIN or BKK to try and get a re-assignment.

If SQ in Perth won't/can't issue boarding pass BKK-DEL, then this is easily done either at the transit area, or at the TG lounge.

For the curious, (like me) what sectors in biz are you referring to, and how much? ie are you flying SIN-BKK-DEL in biz, or just SIN-BKK.

Cheers,

TK

You will only be able to get boarding passes for all sectors in PER if they're all on the same ticket. Otherwise, as stated above, getting BPs issued at the transfer desk in SIN is easy. Simply jump on the skytrain to terminal 1 (SQ and TG use different terminals in SIN) and follow the signs to the relevant transfer desk.

You will be able to check your bags straight through to DEL. Simply show the check in agent in PER the tickets of all flights you're booked on.

Singapore's baggage handling is AMAZING. I've never had a problem, nor have I heard of anyone else having a problem. If anything, It usually starts with the "other" side.

thanks for your reples. Unfortunately the booking will be made seperately (one for the SQ flights and one for the TG flights).

The biz class is for SIN-BKK-DEL and return and cost around $1200 AUD or just under $1000 USD on zuji.com.au.

Thks. The TG website quotes USD 905 for SIN-BKK-DEL return.

This is good value in comparison to, say, BKK-NGO-BKK (similar distance) at USD 1700. SQ would charge you close to USD 2000 SIN-DEL rtn

One more question. Does Thai have any luggage security checks before you check-in the luggage (i.e. drug testing)? I'm rather apprehensive about doing the travelling this way as last time we travelled with Royal Brunei and Qantas from LHR-DXB-BWN-CGK-PER (CGK-PER with Qantas) and we had our luggage tagged all the way through PER. When it came to check in with Qantas at CGK (the other legs were with BI), we were told that they would have to go and find our luggage as it is QANTAS' policy to drug test the baggage in CGK. This took an hour and a half and were worried our luggage would not be loaded to PER. Does Thai have that policy in SIN like QANTAS or, can I be assured that there will be no trouble transferring my baggage from SQ to TG in SIN, then onwards to BKK then DEL?

Drug testing is not subjected to any particular airline but rather what customs decide to do randomly.

Saying that there isn't anything in particular that SQ/TG are doing that might warrant a drug testing search. We cannot assure you that such things don't happen.. as it is a matter of chance.
