F Menu

I did a search and I could not find any thread with F menu. Thus, I will start this one with my recent TG flight BKK - NRT.

Note: I did not take the menu, but wrote them down in a piece of paper. Thus my reading now might create misspelling. Sorry... ;)

Perhaps you should cross-post the link to the photos of food to the BA forum just for a laugh ;)

pre-order your food

Does somebody here already have experience with the recent possibility to pre-order your main course?
I have always found the service and quality of food in F very good. It also leaves a little bit room for surprise if you don't know what you will have. At any rate, one could always choose from different main courses. I typically go for the Thai main course. In the end one doesn't fly on Thai to eat French cuisine?

On the other hand I always like at least one French item from the menu, and that's the wine selection (although not uniquely French). It's always excellent.

I have already asked why they were serving Veuve Cliquot La Grande Dame on the Ground and Dom Pérignon in the air. It seems that one is better at normal air pressure, whereas the other is more suited at reduced air pressure.

It seems to be quite an enological challenge to choose wines that are at their best at reduced air pressure. I recently read an article about the subject in a Lufthansa in-flight magazine. With lower air pressure other volatile substances may become more dominant and can change the taste of a wine completely.

We preordered F course on BKK-HKG (Lobster Thermador. Yummy). I rang up TG while in BKK and they faxed the menu to our hotel. You have to call 24 hours before flight I believe. I posted some of the menu items; I'll see if I can find that old post.

BTW, after the Lobster the FA came around and offered us food from the cart as well.

Here are some of the items; this was early 2005:

Chinese Roast Duck with Yellow and Green Noodles

Coquilles St. Jacques and Duchess Potatoes

Glass Noodles Pad Thai Wrapped in Omlet Served with Lobster Tail

Fish Maw with Crabmeat and Bamboo Pith Soup

Ostrich Steak with Brandy and Thai fresh herb sauce

Grilled Tournedos a la Sompote, Tamarind and Red Wine Sauce served with Baked Potatoes and Mixed Vegetables

Lobster Thermidor with Duchess Potatoes

Grilled Fillet of Beef Rossini

Tom Yum Kung Served with Rice

Thai Fried Rice with Prawns

Beef Stew English Style

Fish Chu-Chee Served with Rice

Rice Porridge with Minced Pork

Are there any recommendations from the pre-order menu or the current n-borad menu? I'm going LHR - BKK - HKG and return mid October.

Just landed

Just landed an hour and a half ago in BKK and am online now in the JW Marriott.

I don't think I've ever gone through an airport more quickly.

Splendid flight (TG 911) and I'd pre-ordered the lobster in sauternes which was extremely good.

I kept the menu so I'll list it later, after some sleep.

garethmorgan Oct 11, 2005 6:26 am

The menu details for yeterdays flight TG911 LHR - BKK 1230 - 0600

(Just clicked that 911 may not be a good flight number for an aeroplane)

Menu has Jan / Apr / Jul / Oct on it so there is presumably a 3 month cycle of menus.

1st Serving

Snack
Sate

Caviar etc
Marinated lobster with mango and baby spinach, Balik salmon with dill, Prosciutto ham wrapped around asparagus (all on 1 plate - after caviar service)

Forest mushroom cream soup

Main course choice.

(Outline only)

Fillet of brill with mushroom in white wine sauce

Sliced roast duck chines style

Oven baked lamb shoulder with rosemary sauce

Beef curry "Mussaman"

Pak Choy and carrot in oyster sauce

Dessert - Apple strudel
Chees etc.

2nd serving (I don't think it appeared as everyone was trying to sleep)

Grilled vegetables with balsamico dressing and Cajun chicken.
or
Finger sandwiches
or
Scone

Third serving

Fruit, cereals

Plain omelette with bacon, hash browns, gratinated tomatoes with parmesan

as above with scrambled eggs

Noodle soup with Chinese roast pork

Soft boiled rice with accompaniments

tea, coffee or Ovaltine.

The bacon & egg breakfast wasn't entirely succesful, clearly oven baked in a tray and probably standing too long but the 1st serving was extremely good.

Pondering what food the BKK - HKK 1600 flight gets the day after tomorrow.

Does one get the full F meal service even on short hops? I'm booked in F for a R/T BKK-HKG, and it's less than three hours...

oh yes, full meal service even on this short route (I just did it a bit earlier this month). The whole time was spent eating and drinking, so save your appetite :)
I think I might have the menu (if so, I'll post more details later)....I had much more than my fair share of my favorite cognac--Hennessy Paradis Extra---so much so that they were just about to leave the bottle at my seat  (and had seconds on the wonderful dessert--I normally never have desserts on planes)....

garethmorgan Oct 31, 2005 8:46 am

Yep, full meal (no caviar though) BKK - HKG.

No amenity kit, or pyjamas, though (sulk) I got the Bulgari on LHR - BKK and the Hermes on the return and the Elle jimjams outbound and the other returning.
