Thai Awards

HI all

I am wanting to use my brothers family points (approx.30,000 - lucky me) to get myself a return ticket to BKK from Sydney. I am aware that points cannot be transfered so I am assuming I must buy the remaining points to bring me to 45,000 points and have them assign the ticket to my name.
Has anyone done this before if so could you give me a run down if this is correct, how long it takes to recieve the ticket (e-ticket??),are awards tickets given seat allocation/priority the same as a bought ticket and anything else I should know? I plan to go on the 23rd of April so I want to act quickly.

Thanks
Dean

Gotten this from ROP website:

Awards can also be redeemed in the name of anyone else with an Award transfer fee of Baht 4,400 payable within Thailand, or EURO/US $100.00, or the equivalent USD amount in local currency. If your account does not contain sufficient miles for your preferred Award, miles can be purchased to top-up your account, up to a maximum of 30,000 miles. Simply contact THAI reservations to purchase miles.

Currently, there is a promotion where you can redeem an award for fewer points if you are travelling on TG. As such, you only need 36,000 points to redeem a Y class ticket on THAI.

The ROP member can make a redemption and collect the ticket at any ROP office. There is an office in Sydney:

Sydney, Australia
Tel: 1300 651960 (Australia Wide)
Fax: 61 2 9251 1106

The ticket will be in the form of e-ticket and seats are subject to availability.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for that info. Thats a great promo on the Thai website!
I will be ringing Thai this afternoon hoping to get a ticket. I've heard rumours suggesting its quite hard to get an award ticket since there are only very few seats allocated per flight to awards?

Well I will give it a try...

thanks
Dean
