Reliability of flights from BOM

Hi. My wife and I will be going to India through BKK. We're getting two separate tickets -- US to BKK (on UA) and BKK to BOM (on TG). We're looking at a return itinerary that will leave BOM at 10:30 pm, arrived in BKK at 4:30 am. Then we would catch the United flight at 7:00 am coming back to SFO.

Does anyone with experience on TG think this is too risky? I realize total certainty is impossible, but how reliable are these BOM-BKK flights generally?

As these are two separate tickets, neither TG nor UA would be responsible if we missed our connection.

Thanks for any thoughts anyone might have.

TGG flights out of India are mostly on time. Even if you reach your UA check in counter at 6:00 AM you will be fine. Try to get your luggage checked all the way thru to SFO, Thai is usually quite accommodating.

You can check the status of flight departures and arrivals at

www.thaiairways.com

"flight information"

Maybe you could check the status of your flight(s) for a week or so to get a feel for the on-time performance?

Personally, I'd leave an extra day cushion, both to break up the trip and to protect against a major delay. I'm not sure what UA will do for you if you miss the flight?

I've noticed that TG flights to BKK tend to get a bit delayed (~30-45mins) leaving BOM everytime that I've been waiting for the SQ flight to SIN that leaves a couple of hours later, but thats nothing that can't be made up within the block time. Note that since you have separate tickets, TG will apply the weight rule from BOM-BKK while the piece rule will apply for your UA flights.
