Gold Card Extensions Beyond Dec 2021?

Hi All - Any news on TG extending membership beyond Dec 2021? Have been a TG Gold member since 1999 but grounded over the past 18 months.

Thanks

This is the last statement I have seen, but another statement might be made later this year, we are only in September, there's more than three months left of 2021.

Validity extension of membership tier status:
- For Silver, Gold, and Platinum members whose status expired or will expire during 1 February – 31 December 2020, validity of your tier status will be specially extended for 2 years after the current status expiry date.
- For Gold and Platinum members whose status will expire during 1 January – 31 December 2021, validity of your tier status will be specially extended for 1 year after the current expiry date.

Members will be entitled benefits from your membership tier status, i.e. extra baggage allowance, complimentary upgrades and yearly award tickets using 50% reduced miles for redemption (for Gold and Platinum members only), with exception of the Threshold Bonus miles.

My membership expires in 31 Dec 2022, having met re-qualification early in period 31 Dec 2018- 31 Dec2020 due to lots of travel late in 2019.

I very much doubt Ill get an extension, although I would argue there are good grounds for doing so

Mine expired on 1 January 2021, giving me an extension to 1 January 2022. Had it expired one day earlier on 31 December 2020, I would be good until 31 December 2022. Makes sense, doesn’t it?

Needless to say, there is no way I will be requalifying this year. If and when things become more normal next year and no longer having *G on TG, unless they do another extension I will no doubt be moving on to another airline’s program. And that after maintaining *G on TG for 22 years.

All we can do is hope. Hopefully 22 years TG*G could be recognised.

To follow up I wrote ROP through the support form explaining the above and enquiring whether there might be an additional extension. That was about two weeks ago.

I have received no reply.

It does indeed seems that all I can do is hope.

Reading this thread prompted me to have a look at my ROP account, which I have not bothered to do for at least six months and, to my surprise I see a PUP there that was not there the last time I looked, which is quite strange as I have not flown with TG for well over a year. It says expiry is June 2022. My Platinum status is still valid until the renewal date in 2022 also.

Thai has recently announced the extension for those whose will be last during 1Jan-31Dec2022.

Validity extension of membership tier status* :
- For Silver, Gold, and Platinum members whose status expired during 1 February 31 December 2020, validity of your tier status was specially extended for 2 years.

- For Platinum and Gold members whose status expire during 1 January 31 December 2021, validity of your tier status will be specially extended for 1 year to the year 2022 after the current expiry date.

- For Platinum and Gold members whose status will expire during 1 January 31 December 2022 and cannot meet normal criteria for card status retention, validity of your tier status will be specially extended for 1 year after the current expiry date, to the year 2023 (subject to personal card expiry date).

Members will be entitled benefits from membership tier status, i.e. extra baggage allowance, most priority services, and access to lounges operated by THAI, THAI Smile, and Star Alliance, with exception of the Threshold Bonus miles, Complimentary Upgrade, and the right of the year 2023 to redeem a reduced 50% award ticket on THAI (Platinum / Gold Award 2023).

Note: Although the Complimentary Upgrade and the Award 2023 do not include in this special Platinum / Gold card renewal, the unused Platinum / Gold Award 2021-2022 and the expired Complimentary Upgrade in 2021-2022 can be exceptionally requested until the year 2023, subject to the renewed card validity and personal remaining benefits.

Your membership tier status will be adjusted after the expiry date of the current one. This is an automatic process, no further action by members is required, so you do not need to contact us for extending validity of the membership tier status.

We hope the above measure can provide ample time for your plan to travel and use the benefits from your membership tier status. We look forward to having you on board THAI once again in the near future.

That's a nice gesture I think. Will be the second time they extend it for me then.

That's great news and thank you for posting it; however, my ROG still shows an expiration of 2 January 2022 and has not been extended. I am going to phone them and see if I can get that clarified.

Oops, sorry. I didn't see this line:

Now all you need is THAI to start flying to AKL again, and for there to be no quarantine. Later this year I hope.

I have some outstanding GUPs left in my account and to my surprise, they are yet to expire this year. I hope I can use it to Europe someday when quarantine (on the way back) is no longer required for a fully vaccinated person.
