ROP Gold Qualification (3rd Dead Year)

Dear all

I always get confused when it comes to Gold qualification after the third renewal year.

I would appreciate if someone could help me to figure our until when will my Gold status be valid till given the following situation

2016 50000 miles Gold Renewal till Sept 2018. Qualify for 2GUP
2017 50000 miles. Gold Renewal till Sept 2020. Qualify for 2GUP.
2018 50000 miles. Gold Renewal till when? / Qualify for GUP?
2019 50000 miles Gold Renewal till when? / Qualify for GUP?

Thank you everyone.

Once Gold, the validity is 2 yearly. It doesn't matter whether you hit 50k in first qualifying year, or the second qualifying year, or 80k over the 2 years. When the miles are earned is important - so was your 50k in 2016 all after Sep 2016? or spread through the year? Only the miles from Sep 16 onwards count towards the re-qualification. Re-do your earn in a spreadsheet by month to see what is counting in each annual 12 month period. Calendar year calc are not relevant unless you coincidentally have 31 Dec as your qualification date (like me )

So, mileage above this pattern won't help with re-qualification for Gold, although qualifying in the first year means more time to use GUP2. It might also be relevant for Plat depending on your cabin class. But you can't 'bank' qualification years beyond simply 're-qualifying' (unlike some other programs e.g. NZ's Airpoints).

So, your qualification year seems to Run Sep XX to Sep XX+2. if you first line is correct then

Sep 16-Sep 18: Flew 50k (at least) in period Sep 16- Sep 17 and/or 50k in period Sep 17-Sep 18. So re-qualified Sep 18-Sep 20, and earned GUP2.
Sep 18-Sep 20: You will re-qualify Sep 20-Sep 22 at some point in your 2 years based on what you have noted. But when the earn actually occurs remains important.

Your ROP lays your history out pretty well these days, and you can make your own forecast on a spreadsheet. I sure do so I know if I am likely to re-qualify or not, and possibly make plans for additional flights. With the impending devaluation, I probably won't bother.

Sorry for not being clear. All the points are earned by 30 Sept for every year.

So if I understood correctly, the above will result in ROP Gold to be valid till 2024 (i.e. existing 2020 plus two (for 50K miles earned until Sept 2018) plus two (for 50K miles earned until Sept 2019)

Not, it doesnt work like that. The qualifications are not cumulative. You can only re-qualify for the next period within the current period of validity of your status, which is 1 Oct 18 to 30 Sep 20.

Imagine that you earned 50k miles at the earliest possible moment, say by 10 Oct 18. You will have re-qualified for the period 1 Oct 20 to 30 Sep 22. All subsequent miles earned thereafter until 30 Sep 20 (ie ithe current period) don’t contibute to any future renewal. If you earned another 50k miles by 10 Oct 19, these dont count at all as you have already met/exceeded the re-qualification requirements for the upcoming period.

Only miles earned AFTER re-qualification on 01 Oct 20 will contribute towards a further re-qualification for the period 1 Oct 22 to 30 Sep 24.

You appear to be earning well in excess of what is needed: 50k miles in a single year, within the 2 year period of validity.
