Mini-Report: THAI fast Track on departure BKK - ROP Gold in Y

Mrs TK and I are flying Y BKK-AKL shortly. We checked in at Row B for economy pax who hold ROP Gold/*G status around 16:00 - it was very quiet.

Once bags were tagged and BPs issued, we then moved around to Row A where business check-out is located. A 'greeter' had just escorted a business class passenger to a checkin counter, so there was no 'greeter' to possibly challenge us. We simply walked through the middle of the check-in area to the far end where a staff member checked our Y boarding passes and passports (I was also holding my ROP Gold card on top of the passports), and we were sent through security, and then through departure immigration without any comments or delays. Took 3-4 minutes all up.

I carefully noted that the signage entering the fast track departure shows First/Silk /Platinum. So this IS NOT a ROP Gold benefit, rather it is tolerated or staff simply assume that having got to that point we were allowed.

I also noted another passenger being given directions that to me suggested he was being told to head around to the right and use the Row A departure channel. We were not given any advice/direction, nor did we ask.

So, it is quite possible for ROP Gold travelling in Y to use the First/Biz Fast Track departure channel - but it is not an official benefit.

So my experience proved to be useful, but the idea was to keep it very quiet........so that TG don't put a stop to this.

BTW the greeter's direct/help to direct people to a check in counter as there is no queue system and this can include the Platinum counters. I doubt if they would be at all interested in checking whether a person walking in this area was travelling in Y holding TG Gold.

Great update, thanks. I don't think I have had a physical gold card for a while now though, are they still issuing them?

This is a secret benefit, and if TG personnel see this post they may enforce the rules and we, TG*G flyers, may not have access anymore, therefore kindly modify this post to something else.

Other posters who have mentioned this situation have not been asked to remove or change their posts, although I accept my post is quite specific in this regard.

The general situation of FT members 'in the know' withholding information/hacks so as to anot to alert a carrier who may make a change as a consequence usually comes up with 'mistake fares'. The opinion of other FTers about the 'rights and wrongs' is often mixed. I'll think about it for now...

I was the poster who informed others about this, not expecting a Trip Report. I agree with Khun Noppasit that post should be modified (or deleted). Those who want to know probably know by now and many others who are on this Forum travel up front and don't need to know.

I am ROP*G and don't read this section very often. I rarely travel up front. So if this post is edited and I hadn't been lucky enough to see it before edited, I'd not be in the know. I'm in the camp of share information for the benefit of one another.

Haha! It’s not a secret benefit at all but rather a couple of people slipping past a staff member who isn’t well informed. That’s not so uncommon: I’d like $$ for every time I’ve seen some unqualified passengers talk their way past the priority lane dragons down the other end of the terminal.
It’s worth a try, I guess although probably not greater than 10-20% likelihood of success at the Thai end.

But it seems that IS the job of the greeter, so ensure that only Biz class pax use the check in counters & subsequently, the expedited clearance..
Every time I've gone to check in for my flight, the staff would ask where I'm flying to & confirm that I am traveling in J class.
I've not seen any Y pax trying to check in there or use the expedited clearance though I don't really pay attention to such things.

When flying J with a golf bag I often check in at the Star Gold counter and then walk around to TG fast track immigration after I have dropped off my bag. (The fact they don't have someone to do that or a drop off area in closer proximity to J check in is very aggravating but a separate topic!)

I have never been challenged when walking through the J class area by the greeter so I guess I could have been walking by with a Y boarding pass but I've never tried. I may well give it a go next time I am flying Y.
