Nothing will be changed despite the approval.

1. The market is heavily dominated by *A, even with UA's withdrawal from SGN (Currently, NH and BR are "sharing" the market).

2. The market is not big enough justify a nonstop.

3. The current plan for SGN-SFO will fail, given DL's presence in SFO is limited.

Incorrect - TG operated BKK-LAX before, using A380. The problem is the route was simply too costly, resulting TG pulling out from the market.

The 380 was never deployed BKK-LAX afaik, that was A340-500.

Don't think *A dominates, and even so why is that relevant .

Sure it is. 3000 O/D daily and growing 15 to 20%

Pretty sure it's LAX and since the NH investment, the DL relationship is purely nominal.

Actually correct. TG was downgraded to Category 2 in 2015 and therefore can't fly to the US.

One major factor in why countries/cities benefit from being a hub is that pooling the inbound connecting traffic allows more destinations to be served. For example, Istanbul has connections to 230+ cities in 120+ countries. This is thanks to Turkish Airlines' hub in Istanbul. Many (most?) of these destinations would not be served if it wasn't for connecting traffic.

This very impressive connectivity gives huge benefits to the local business community, helps make the city far more competitive for companies establishing regional hubs and increases foreign investment. It's not just tourism.

Sure... but many long haul connections might require an internal flight between SGN and HAN on the same itinerary, if you're doing a round-trip in a couple weeks yo might need to apply for a visa or other arrival permit. Who can be bothered? You can fly SQ or TG or and of the Chinese carriers and not have to worry about it.

Now if Viet Nam issued an automatic transit permit on arrival free from all restrictions such as previous entries that might make it appealing.

Well, if we are talking building a hub where people would not only change flights, but they'd need a flight between airports to change flights, then for sure Vietnam is zero threat, and they are never going to achieve for anything. Flying 717 miles to the airport of your next flight is not going to attract many people unless it is seriously cheap. But that leaves the profitability in the drain

It kind of works in Tokyo with people changing between airports for international flights, but it is not something that is really attractive. And that's just a train ride
