Back in the mid 2000s I had a discussion with Larry Kellner (a really nice guy) the then Chairman of CO, about Continental (now part of United), offering lifetime elite once you pased the million mile butt in seat mark. He told me he was lifetime Gold on American and it was only "wallet candy." I complained here on Flyertalk and I believe the Moderator of the CO forum said if I did not like it I should stop flying CO. (The posts probably are still here on Flyertalk). I did stop flying CO and enjoyed Chairman's status on US Airways and Gold on Delta. Eventually CO gave lifetime Silver to the million milers, and after the merger with United it became Gold, and since I had retired I then went back to CO / United.
