Thai ID card only OK for domestic flights

I am considering a trip from Bangkok to Chiang Mai return with a friend's family (adults and children) who are all Thai nationals. The children do not yet have passports but do have Thai Identity Cards. Do all airlines accept the Thai identity card as identification for domestic flights (TG,FD,SL,DD,PG)?

For domestic flights within Thailand, Thai Nationals just need their identity cards at check in, security and at the gate. I could even use my Thai D/L and not my foreign passport for domestic flights.

Thanks for the quick answer, much appreciated.

I confirm the answer above. I have seen this all the time at the gates; thai nationals showing their Thai ID card.

As per TG website FAQ:

'Only your ticket and I.D. card (Identification card) or passport (for foreigner) are required. In case of child with no I.D. card, please provide student I.D card or house registration or birth certification.'

As an aside I am not Thai, but have a Thai ID card which I have been using for years to check in for PG and TG flights.

as Thai Citizen you definitely have no problem with Thai ID

as a Foreigner i would not try to leave the passport at home as I have mixed experience.
I had a couple of times no problem with my foreign ID Card (no passport shown), but was at Swampy security once rejected with the mentioned "Thai ID"...this pink card for foreigners is actually not a real ID card!

Correct - it is a pink card that I have. I do carry my passport when travelling on domestic flights but have never been asked to show it.

as there can always be some staff, who does not accept this pink Thai ID (like it happens to me), I would not recommend to any foreigner to leave the passport at home when traveling domestic

Flying domestic is very flexible for Thais. In some cases and some airlines, even photocopied or a photo of national ID card in a phone is allowed eg. Air Asia.

But for the peace of mind, this practice would never fail.
Thai - national ID card or passport.
Foreigner - a passport.
