Saw the same seats today but was told opening date would be Tuesday ;) anyway, it's about to happen!

Besides the name, what is the difference between a Royal Silk Lounge and a Royal Orchid Lounge? As ROP Gold I can visit them both and I'm sure the same applies for J passengers. Any differences in the offerings?

Royal Silk = Business Class Lounge only
Royal Orchid = First and Business Class Lounge

As I peeked into the lounge today, it looks ready to open anytime now. Looking at the ceremony arrangement, I assume that it's likely to open tomorrow as you were told.

Good, I see *G sign in front, please don't remove that.

pandalama Oct 21, 19 11:56 pm

Pictures available on official THAI AIRWAYS facebook page.

The lounge has two sides:
- One only for First/ ROP Plat
- Another side for BC / *A Gold / ROP Gold

There is made to order food and proper Barista

I could not see any photos uploaded onto Facebook on this lounge. Was it another media channel?

I saw the photos on THAI facebook page in Thai language. And from the comment below the post, page's admin. told that lounge in D concourse will be closed for renovation in April 2020.

kaffir76 Oct 23, 19 5:17 am

well well - it's finally open (well done TG!)

ROYAL ORCHID PRESTIGE (ROP) Lounge :D
Was prepared to walk to the SQ lounge but a manager I met last week recognized me & told me about the new lounge - it is connected to the regular lounge after J class immigration.
Something seemed off when I walked past the front desk/wine bar to check in - I noticed the row of tables and seats were gone but I didn't notice the new entrance (it's pretty small & inconspicuous)
The staff don't mention to the guests that it's open so I don't know how the others (who don't read FT) knew about it - it was not crowded at all when I visited
The "main" entrance of this lounge is right next to gate D4
I'd have liked this to be a Business class lounge for J class pax, and TG ROP Platinum members only but It's not and it's open to all.
It's gonna get very packed very soon when word gets out (hello, travel bloggers .. )

Some pics for now -

Ribbonzzz

https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...af7b25b971.jpg
Too many pics to upload, will save some for others to add ;)

Some observations - (and no, I haven't read the posts from yesterday yet)

1. Split into 3 or 4 sections, in a long & narrow layout - "hot chefs" in the middle section (freshly prepared noodle dishes etc.) with self serve / buffet style counter tops scattered in each section, I guess - not sure how else to describe it (& I got to leave soon)
2. Lots of staff in the new lounge & they look very happy to be here ... they look proud of this new place & rightfully so, they should be - it's gorgeous
3. Noticed a new menu, roast beef that's still pink in the middle (though it's served at room temp. I guess to prevent it from over cooking) and grilled chicken with som tam Thai, for the 1st time in (my) TG lounge history (at least to me ...)
There's no champagne (of course not) but they do have Prosecco and for all you drinkers out there, the wine bar is no longer relegated to a corner of the lounge ^
4. I think there were 2 bathrooms + shower entrances in the lounge, everything looks & feels clean & brand new
- I just might pop back in later for a shower
5. Lastly let me leave you with the "fish tank" room (as my friend said when I showed him the pic) for F class pax (YAY ..) - u gotta see it to believe it :p

https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.fly...f55fef79ec.jpg
The Aquarium room

Overall, it's an awesome lounge, good effort on TG's part and finally, a lounge that all TG pax can enjoy, and not have to trek over to Concourse D/E for the other *A lounges - you know which ones I'm talking about! :-:

MKE-MR Oct 29, 19 4:29 am

Wow, this was open on the 21st when I walked by on my way to the SQ lounge, and I completely missed the fact that it was the first day.
I had a six hour layover too...could have had the FT/blogger scoop :p

Note the pink-ness of the beef (but it was served at room temp.)

Will come back to post some comments later - just thought I'd upload all the pics while I had some free time

OMG! About time!

I think TG has a pretty good J class product now. Mostly excellent seats, reasonably good food, good service on board, and good IFE. This lounge tops it off. Well done TG!

andyptrav Nov 3, 19 6:51 am

The food looks more varied and better than the F lounge

pandalama Nov 3, 19 7:46 am

Now they just need newer planes!

Disgusting habit I know but does anyone know if there will be a smoking room in the F lounge ?

Smoking is banned on the airport premises, so no.

I do not smoke either, but noticed it in the news earlier this year. Seems to have gone into effect on 3 February in six airports under AOT:

Wow, thanks for sharing that info, amazing Thailand strikes again, another stroke of genius to piss off certain tourists

SKT-DK Nov 3, 19 11:25 pm

To be honest, this ban is a move I fully support, and is no different from many other international airports around the world :)

Sure, neither of us smoke but Thailand should make itís mind up how much it wants tourists

I donít see any problem with the designated smoking lounges at other airports

Personally, I do not think it is a deterrent for tourist arrivals. Most people would likely either not know in advance or be used to it from their origin/transit points. On the contrary it could help showcase the country as taking public health seriously by discouraging smoking.

I always find that you are being hit by a wall of stinky smoke when forced to walk past those smoking rooms - as soon as the door is opened the smoke pours out and lingers in the air for long.

Yeah, but in BKK the smoking rooms were tucked away on the lower level. I've never left from one of those gates, so most would be hard pressed to have any smoke effects unless seeking the rooms out.

This makes BKK less appealing to transit tourists, and departing tourists. Arrival not so much of an issue.

I can imagine that someone addicted to smoking might well check on their ability to continue their habit whilst on holiday.
Smoking lounges would encourage & not discourage those pax.

If they really want to stop people from smoking, they could try taxes, 60 THB for 20 Camel .....

Yes there was even after they banned smoking at the airport. I suppose the new F lounge won't have one then

If that's the case, I am going to divorce my Thai missus and head to Vietnam to find a new wifey, can still smoke at the airport there :)

Okay, back OT, I'm in the new "Prestige" lounge now waiting to depart on TG606. It's super spacious and the decor is quite attractive. I wish they had selected higher quality, more comfortable chairs. Food is a disappointment. It's basically the same stuff as across the way, plus a few cooked to order items - stir fried noodle with chicken ball, pad thai, and instant noodle soup. Perhaps that's just a mid-afternoon flat spot. But I would rate SKL food several notches higher.

There are a gazillion staff members standing around. All very friendly, but it's almost a little awkward, you can't go ten feet without giving at least two or three "sawasdee kraps."

Totally agreed. But guess what. The toilet has bum guns! BIG UPGRADE for me.

I had a quick visit yesterday and was quite impressed.
Still very few people using it.
I'm not particularly fond of Chang, but I'd have to say that the draught on offer is the best beer available at BKK.
Noticed also that one of the concourse 'C' lounges seems to be undergoing some serious refurb.

I recently visited and agree - this is a definite improvement. More food choices, 2 red, 2 white and sparkling wine available. They are overstaffed, but this is Thailand. :)

How does the Wine quality compare to the SQ lounge ?

I don't know the quality of the wine because I don't drink. But this is the drinks menu of Royal Orchid Prestige Lounge I taken from Review topic on Thai webboard (https://pantip.com/topic/39414802). You can compare it by yourself.

Surprised to see 3/4 being non-French wines considering TG's long-lasting obsession with (mediocre) French wine.
I must admit that I am actually rather intrigued by the new TG ground service now - not that I would ever choose a flight based on a lounge, but it is definitely an improvement that could make me not trying to avoid TG in the future.

chris63 Nov 20, 19 2:56 am

Never thought I would ever be able to say this about a TG lounge but itís very nice 👍
Only goes to show miracles can happen :D

Very quiet yesterday lunchtime, food wise for western dishes, more choice at SQ lounge but fair enough itís in Thailand & the live cooking stations are impressive

The single TIP in the F aquarium looked like a Goldfish in a bowl with everyone walking past staring in :D

Wine is most impressive for a J lounge, they go from no wine to decent stuff ..... amazing
