Overbooked. On standby

Flights tomorrow. Tried to check in at 16 hours, told that check in successful and on standby. Went to website and realised that all the flighrs are sold out.

Any idea what is the passenger right and the compensation? There is SQ flight but only business class available.

Hate to get to airport at 2 hours before flight to be denied boarding.

guess to SIN?
TG has 5 flights per day to SIN and they will certainly find a seat for you on one. Can't believe that all are full during this low season…
compensation is what you are offered from the airline: no regulation like in the EU261

I checked ExpertFlyer and there are plenty of seats on all flights BKK-SIN (assuming that is the case) - suspect some equipment changes might be responsible for the messages you have received.

1 Get to the airport 4 hours early?
2 Do you hold TG ROP status of any kind, or *G - there are some 'guarantees' stated as applying - although in practice I have no experience how these might work.

ROP Silver
Priority reservations waitlisting and airport standby

ROP Gold
Guaranteed Seating in Economy Class for reservations made 72 hours prior to departure and walitlist still open and on valid booking classes Y, M, B.

Star Gold
Priority reservations waitlisting and airport standby

Yep, almost 100% sold in all classes. there is 1 or 2 'C' biz fares on a couple the flights (first and last). Solo or with family? A singleton would be much easier accommodate.

I see SQ has a few Y available. I wonder if TG could endorse you over to SQ? If you need to travel, would your insurance cover a biz buy-up?

Would getting to airport early help? If there is still C ticket available for the 7.40am flight. Technically they could op up someone to fit me in? Or i should just turn up 2 hours before flight to negotiate with them?

Yes they will do that. They may be overbooked in Y but not technically oversold due to empty J seats.

My single experience flying standby on TG (at KBI) was that it's every man for himself and if you just wait patiently you'll probably get left behind.

Glad it worked out.

My SQ flight yesterday was full in J. You don't see that very often.
