No more ICN-HKG by TG

From Oct 28th 2018, ICN-HKG-BKK becomes ICN-BKK nonstop. TG will keep ICN-TPE-BKK, soon to be the only 5th freedom out of ICN. TG has operated ICN-HKG for a very long time, for 20+ years I think. Sad to see this route go.

Same for the return - all direct flights or via TPE.

Would have preferred this when living in Seoul for the past 4 years!

you mean a direct morning flight to ICN instead the one through HKG which brought you into ICN in the evening?
I always took one of the two direct red eyes, which leave within 30 minutes to each other… and one is with flat seats now...

Yes, I did a dummy booking to check the returns.

ICN-BKK we always preferred the 09:30 direct flight flight, which for the Korea market was always more expensive than the 10:50 flight via HKG. The later flights were never suitable.
BKK-ICN we always preferred one of the 2 red-eyes (usually in Y) rather than any of the indirect flights.

The updated schedules are plucked from ExpertFlyer are:

ICN-BKK
TG659 0935-1330
TG657 1050-1445 (Su, M, T, W, Th F)
TG689 1120-1515 (M, T, Th, Sa)
TG635 1730-2305 via TPE
TG655 2125-0120

BKK-ICN
TG634 0725-1615 via TPE
TG654 1240-2005
TG688 2240-0605
TG658 2310-0635
TG656 2330-0655

This the the maximim case of 5 flights in a day, 4 direct and 1 indirect via TPE. Some days have fewer flights.

I did not bother with listing the departure days ex-BKK.

TG started nonstop HKG-ICN in 1983. Must be a hard choice for TG to suspend a 35 year-old route.

One wonders what TG have against their HK based customers. First we lose all first cabins, and now a good value way to get to ICN in business class. No doubt CX will be rubbing their hands and increasing prices.

F loads were pretty light on that route, you could pretty much always score an award seat through UA. And there are over 20 daily nonstops (not counting TG) on ICN-HKG, so not really surprised it wasn't working for TG.

Because TG is dropping its single daily flight? Doubtful. I suspect CX is much more concerned with KE, HK, OZ, and UO on this route.

such outside the hub regional routes flown only once a day are just not common and reasonable anymore
TG's HKG TPE flight vanished long time ago and it is probably just a question of time until TPE ICN will vanish

We also lose TG to HKT replaced by lousy WE. As well as one of the HKG-BKK flight.

HKT was quite often widebody, is that replaced with A320 only? That's somewhat of a capacity cut....
