77W now featuring next week

I see 789 now alternating daily with 77W next week AKL-BKK: 16, 18, 20 Apr according to ExpertFlyer, and confirmed y booking has changed from 789 to 773.
Luckily my 15K on the 789 maps nicely to my preferred window on the 77W. Things appear to be 789 thereafter. Hopefully this 'plan' sticks.

For the day flight 1310-2025 I really don't mind too much, just hope I finally get a flat seat for the return (night flight).

So, more 77W flights for BKK-AKL, through to the first week of May at least - I may not get my 789 flights at all now.
This suggests the there are still Trent 1000 issues for THAI's 789 fleet of 2.

My wife and I are on AKL-BKK in J on 6/13, currently scheduled for a 787-9. The past week the planes have been switched to 787-8. We are on an award ticket, is there any chance they bump us down to economy if they switch to the smaller business class seating and there isn't enough space?

This would be unlikely in my view, but impends on how many biz seats have been sold prior to the type change (if it happens). The schedule appears to have been decided as 788 from about 2 weeks ago, and noting 13 Jun is a Wed, you should be fine.

I do see ExpertFlyer and THAI showing the flights are back to 789 and there are plenty of biz seats available, so you should be fine - I wouldn't worry but suggest just keep watching the seat map for indications of change. An early check-in is probably likely to reduce any possibility of being bumped - award tickets are not 'free' - you are paying from the miles earned!

My 789 flight changed to a 788, with lots of biz pax moved around to seats that some didn't like....

My wife and I have a confirmed booking in J class for 13th June. Checked this booking this morning and it still shows as 787 - 9. Hopefully it stays that way.

Set expectations low at this point that the 789 will be operating - Other threads report FAA has issued an ETOPS AD for some aircraft with the Trent 1000 (includes THAI) - this limits aircraft to not more than 60 minutes flying on 1 engine. See:https://www.flyertalk.com/articles/t...l&utm_campaign=The Boeing Company AirplanesBest outcome would be a change to 77W/359! You may like to look at the varying seat maps, and select seats that 'work' for you as a couple no matter the type concerned.

Well....OK for the 12 hours day flight, less good for the return overnight flight. Anyway, keep watching.....things may yet still change.

how to apply for compensation like this? because 787 business class is way different than b777-200 business class. unless it changed to either to b777-300er or a350.
I received an email that there is no compensation of this.

of course there is NO compensation. With a ticket you buy transportation service from one location to the other at a certain time in a certain class. But there is no guarantee of a certain airplane or seat type

This is indeed true. I know it can be disappointing, but probably this is spelled out in the T&C of the 'conditions of carriage'. Additionally, THAI in NZ provide notification on their NZ website.

"Dear Customers,

Thai Airways are making changes to the type of aircraft operated on some Auckland Bangkok Auckland services.
To see if these changes affect your flight, please contact our reservations team at: [email protected] or 09 377 3886 (option 2) for further information.

Kind Regards,

Thai Airways New Zealand

Yea, this is a major stink. I was ok when I thought it was a 777-300er as the couple seats are quite private, but my flight has also been changed to the old angle flat 777-200. I've flown this one other time, on a short flight from BKK to KBV, which was fine for an hour flight. Shameful this is used for a 12 hour long haul flight!

I am not sure 'shameful' is apt - maybe regrettable. You could cancel if the 777-200ER is a deal-breaker.

I have flown the 777-200ER (or the A346) in J BKK-AKL and vv around 18 times. I didn't mind this seat AKL to BKK as this is essentially a daytime flight, however the return overnight BKK-AKL flight was more of a challenge to get a 4-5 hours decent rest/sleep. The situation caused by RR engines in the 787-9 is unfortunate for all, as is TG's decision to move the 777-200ER back to BKK-AKL. But I an understand that this probably minimises overall disruption to their network.

I do count myself 'lucky' that my recent flights in J (Apr/May) were 77W AKL-BKK, and 788 BKK-AKL.

If TG were to get their act together and refurbish the 77E in J to lie flat seats, then there should be minimal disruption. Don't know how long it will take for them to upgrade the aircrafts. Have not heard if any of those upgraded is already flying.

TG does not operate with safety margin to cover if something may go wrong. They just put out the fire as the fire comes. The RR engine issue really makes life difficult for them. But as in everything in Thailand, this too shall pass, so what is the problem?!

I flew the TG560 BKK-HAN just now in J. I had booked the ticket expecting a 787-8, and had selected a window seat on the basis of 2-2-2 expecting I'd need to catch some sleep after a gruelling midday flight from LHR - at that point the aircraft was listed as 777-200/300.

I couldn't believe my eyes when I stepped into the cabin and then realised that I had been reassigned to 12K on a 1-2-1 layout, a true window seat, on the 77W which is what I would have got had I chosen the evening flight from LHR.

The preset told me that it was actually going to be the 777-200 but they decided to switch as of this morning. I checked the flight history and it looks like they even used the A330 for some flights in recent weeks. So, one can get lucky being TGed (reverse TG??)
