Why is Thai still so expensive from BKK?

I usually need BKK-HKG RT's as I fly AA back to the US (HKG-LAX) 3 or 4 times per year. On that market, I use expedia.co.th as it usually comes in lower than booking directly on Thai's website. Not always, as last trip I used EK, but often it's better. Not sure about other markets for business class. Back a few years, Rani at Chawla Travel used to have some great deals, but not anymore.
