Ekniti Nitithanprapas has resigned as chairman of Thai Airways International as it struggles with financial challenges and minister's push to replace directors at state enterprises.

That can't be good news. Interesting that they wait until Saturday to release this info.

Nitithanprapas was previously director-general of the Revenue Department.

This seems like part of a bigger house-cleaning effort at the Transport Ministry, with AoT, BMTA and SRT chairman all potentially "resigning" (probably to be spread out over a week or so?) by the new regime (shared amongst BJT and Dem parties).

Yes, jobs for the new boys in power has priority over ability or prudent management

New chairman, new cutlery.

"Marketing flair"

Finance proposes ministry's deputy secretary as next THAI boss

Deputy Transport Minister Thaworn Senneam said yesterday (November 11) that the Finance Ministry would propose the ministry's Deputy Permanent Secretary Chakkrit Parapuntakul as the next board chairman of Thai Airways International (THAI).

The ministry is the largest shareholder of the state carrier. The company’s vice chairman, Air Chief Marshal Chaiyapruk Didyasarin, has since assumed the duties of the chairman.

He added that the three key qualifications for the next THAI chairman were marketing flair, technology knowledge, and transparency.

THAI losses Bt4.68 billion in Q3 2019

The national carrier Thai Airways International (THAI) announced the turnover of the company and its affiliates in the 3rd quarter of 2019 on Thursday (November 15), reporting a net loss of Bt4.68 billion, 27 per cent higher than last year’s result or Bt994 million. This loss translates to Bt2.14 loss per share, which is Bt0.44 higher than last year or 25.9 per cent.

In the third quarter of 2019, the company and its affiliates generated revenue of Bt45.016 billion, which is 6.1 per cent or Bt2.937 billion lower than last year’s revenue. The major cause for the dip in revenue was cited as negative factors in global economy that have reduced customers’ need to travel and transport products, as well as increased competition from low-cost airlines. The company and its affiliates have an accumulated expenditure of Bt47.858 billion, which is Bt4.029 billion lower than last year (7.8 per cent), thanks to a 12.2 per cent decrease in fuel costs compared to last year.

I think they expect to use the Q4 profit to compensate some net loss because their operation usually has a profit in Q1 and Q4 and losses in Q2 and Q3.

So you are saying they think they realistically can make up the 10.9bn loss of the first nine months in the last quarter of the year? If Q3 alone yields a loss of 4bn how on earth is Q4 supposed to finish at a positive 9bn to compensate...

please read properly:
he wrote "some net loss" may be compensated
(and that is and has always been true over the last years)

https://www.bangkokpost.com/business...-b10-9-billion
Mr Sumeth predicted the national airline would post a loss of less than 3 billion baht in the last quarter of this year, which is the high season.
Just a few days ago, he said he hoped the airline could reduce its full-year loss to 2.2 billion baht, from an expected 10 billion.

We are talking of a 2019 loss in the order of 15 billion or USD500 million. And Sumeth says that "such losses are normal for ailrines".

Pathetic.

Interesting - guess this is another consequence of lack of operational planes in the near future?
Guess it is good news for pax though as the 359 (at least IMO) is a more comfortable plane than the 77W.
