Looking in the T&C it seems they are allowed for at least some. I’d bet all.

This is partly news - senior TG staff at MAN Airport.

Whether a flight from Manchester will follow, well, who knows...

“These routes are all covered by a small number of flights and have low customer capacity,” he said. “Once the cancellation plan is finalised, THAI will assign Thai Smile Airways to cover these routes instead.”
That's not exactly what I see when flying to Hanoi... And I do it once a month...

Reading the article is, if quoted accurately, a mix of reading Stephen King and Franz Kafka. Horror and absurd.

However, next year’s strategy remains to be seen. Our prices this year have been reduced to a record low and if this strategy doesn’t work, we may take a different direction, such as seeking more partners for organisation tickets, increasing online channels, or giving privileges to frequent fliers,” he added

Giving privileges to frequent fliers is certainly new and untested territory in the airline business....

Unbelievable... Tried to search for him on Linkedin - found only one profile of Sumeth Damrongchaitham who is 'aaa at aaa'.

Is he experienced or yet another nephew on Someone Important?

One does wonder how they come up with these people. It is actually really sad, TG does have a lot of great people in the frrontline, but they ar being sacrificed by the incompetence in management.

Bio from the TG investors website here (I realise it does not go back more than five years for professional experience):
Mr. Sumeth Damrongchaitham | Thai Airway International (THAI)

Definitely not an aviation background..

Though interestingly enough also a director at Nok Airlines.

Maybe not much airline background, but seemingly he took classes in the economics of popular music.

Yes, that part struck me as interesting as well - so he has two loss making airlines on hand, not just one

And yet Bangkok Post uses a picture of a TG plane from a decade or more ago - great journalism

Yes.

He is the nephew (note that this can really mean son, by a second or third wife) of Paiboon Damrongchaitham, Chairman of GMM GRAMMY, an entertainment conglomerate.

He could also be married into a more prominent family.

In the current "government" the BJT (Bhum Jai Thai - Proud to be Thai) party "shares" the transport ministry with the "Democratic" party.

Thai Airways at risk of closure, president says

Thai Airways International (THAI) president Sumeth Damrongchaitham said on Tuesday that staff must cooperate with the airline's rehabilitation efforts because it is in a crisis and faces possible closure.

"The competition is very fierce this year," Mr Sumeth said. "THAI is really in a crisis. Next year it must do its best. If staff are still unaware and do nothing, they will not have enough time to fight back. Today very little time remains. Today there is no comfort zone. Everyone will die if the vessel sinks," .
