who (dares to) say that?
they will remain in the fleet and SYD and MUC will continue to be served by these birds furtheron....

Because some of them just aren't that old. Some are younger than certain 777-200s.

I heard from a reliable source that the A350 delay in AUS was a legacy of when CASA put Thai on notice for lapse in safety and maintenance back in 2015. Thai need to jump through a lot more hoops at the moment by validating the maintenance and safety plan for their new aircraft.

The message that CASA hadn't seen a A350 come up for approval before was misleading. It's because casa hadn't seen an A350 by TG before, so they need to treat it as a new plane (remember, each airline has slightly different mods, and maintenance plans of the plane.. it's not just the logo that's different)

In early July my friend and I will fly KUL-BKK-MEL. Then return on the same 2 sectors in late August;

Ideally, I would like to do the KUL-BKK (and back) in economy, while BKK-MEL (and back) in Business class.

Is there any way that I can do this on one ticket? Does being *G swing any weight in this?

Thanks for any info.

Status doesn't override booking and fare rules. Unless there are any super sales ex BKK, starting your journey in KUL will make the flight cheaper than an straight out BKK-MEL.

By way of example the fares on offer at the moment (outbound JUL and return AUG) are:

- KUL-BKK-MEL (return TG business class) is USD1455
- BKK-MEL on its own is USD2503

I doubt such a mixed fare is possible (short haul in Y, long-haul in J). I have seen mixed fares where outbound in one class, and return in another.

I think being *G is meaningless - a fare needs to be published for what you want, and so a good TA might be your best bet to try and construct something.

In my experience, often fares from a place like KUL via BKK are actually cheaper than if originating in BKK. i.e. KUL-BKK-MEL rtn may be cheaper the simply BKK-MEL rtn.

Just checked randomdates for dummy bookings 5 Jul - 23 Aug:

KUL-BKK-MEL return is MYR 6511 (THB 50,00-ish)

BKK-MEL return is THB 85,000.

Check it out yourself, and go J the whole way - the fare of MYR 6511 is madly cheap!!

Thank you, to the 3 of you for your very considerable effort - and good news. I like Thai-Kiwi's comment:

Check it out yourself, and go J the whole way - the fare of MYR 6511 is madly cheap!!

Besides, the miles in either Y or J will ensure my *G status with A3 for 2019

The TG fare is just $100 more than flying with AirAsia (after paying for HotSeats and extra baggage) - and the extra comfort in Y, and especially in J -will be worth it...

Didn't know that LHR/MEL/Europe FF was also responding!

By way of comparison, same dates ex-SIN instead of KUL is SGD 5,500 - more than twice the price..... TG obviously has a soft spot for Malaysian neighbours!

very interisting information, xzyman...
now I am just wondering when CASA will realize and acknowledge that ICAO finally didn't put the red flag on Thailand and that, therefore, TG should be able to execute its business plan including equipment changes as planned.....

CASA, not ICAO decides who and under what conditions may fly to Australia!!!
