65K miles is great even after UA Nov 2017 devaluation. Pre-devaluation it was 60K.

2) Will TG serve a meal after takeoff on BKK-KIX, or before landing? It's a short redeye flight. My experience has seen both-- on SQ SIN-NRT, you choose when you want to eat, but only once; on JL you got a little snack or amuse bouche after takeoff, then a full breakfast (on KUL-NRT a couple years ago).
3) With the 70 minute layover in BKK-- will I be brought by buggy from the first flight to the next? Is there time for 20-30 min in the F lounge? Likely not, right? That's ok but always good to know how it will go.
4) My seats on the 747 are 2A, on the A380 it's 1K. Nothing else is open on the 747, but 1K, 2K, 3K, and 2A are all available on the A380. Opinions?
1) TG usually offers dine on demand only if you ask. In F should be possible; in J might be rejected if cabin is full
2) KIX red eye flight small meal after take off and breakfast before Landing
3) yes you should be picked up by buggy and brought through transit security to F lounge. If plane arrives early or on time, there should be 20-30 minutes left for F lounge. you will be escorted to departed plane but not by Buggy (unless plane departs from E or G, then one floor down, buggy and again through security)
4) on A380 my preference is 2A and 2K. First row is also not bad as there is only one restroom in front and lounge area is usually not used. 3. row is close to galley and two restrooms. If you have middle seats, a movable wall can be erected between the middle seats

First of all, thanks for all of your replies! That is good to know my seat selection is decent, and that I will be escorted to the lounge (if the flight is one time, of course).
As for the 65K being a good deal-- Yes I thought so too-- it was 50K one-way for a nonstop NZ C ticket, which also sounded great. But when this came up (NZ C on 777, then 2 segments in TG F = 19 hours in the air in nice cabins) I was sold. I will report back how it was.
Hey, another question-- should I pre order a meal on those flights?
Any other advice on how to best maximize my (rare for me) First Class experience?
Thanks!

You’ll love it. Just relax and enjoy. It’s one of the rare cases when longer travel time can actually be enjoyable.

You can pre-order a meal if offered on your flights.

enjoy the Dom Pérignon (champagne) on both F segments and the caviar (on SYD BKK segement only)
you will get pjiamas on both legs (and a nice Rimowa amenity kit)
preorder meal: I usually preorder one for flights to Japan as I like Japanese food, nice light meals in a Bento box
I had not made good experiences with pre order steaks ex SYD

Oh those are exactly the kind of details that help me look forward to the trip!

For pre order menus in First Class on SYD-BKK, I don't think I'd order beef anyway, but it's good to cross it off the list.
When I went into the website and didn't put in my PNR, just clicked on "view available meals" -- there is a "Page not found" that comes up. I was wondering if TG had discontinued the First Class pre ordering? But then I put in my PNR and the dishes below seem to be order-able.

Have any of you particularly loved any of these dishes from either flight?

The "Exclusive Thai Set Menu #1-6" offered on the KIX flight sound interesting, too..... Thanks!

SYD-BKK F CLASS MEALS

Tom Yum soup with prawn and mushroom

Stir-fried prawn with garlic, chilli and basil

Grilled fillet beef Rossini

Roasted duck

Boiled rice with Sea Bass

Not A problem, I’ll be in Japan for 12 days so I’ll have plenty of chances to eat tasty Japanese food. If anyone has some experience with the first class meal choices listed above for either of my flights, any feedback would be great!

I often have lobster thermidor, which can be quite good. If you do not like whatever you pre-order, the standard in flight menu is still available, so just ask for something else. Theu can also offer the J meals if you prefer one of those.

Overall TG F catering is very good, but not quite at the level of SQ or CX. I am sure you will enjoy whatever you have.

the Lobster Thermidor is usually not too bad but still varies in Quality
Thai Food is usually not toned down regarding spaces and I get plenty of better quality Thai Food in Thailand
usually boiled or pan fried stuff is better than grilled...

Hello,

looking at the following for a Sunday in September. Hand luggage only, single traveler.

TG2571 VTE-BKK 13:20-14:25 (Thai Smile revenue ticket in Y)
TG606 BKK-HKG 16:00-19:45 (miles redemption through Miles & More in C)

Can't include the VTE-BKK leg with the redemption and have to purchase it separately. Understand 95mins is above MCT and should be doable at BKK as it is international-international.

I suppose the question is what happens if I miss TG606 due to the first leg being late. Will TG just rebook me onto another/next morning's flight (which would be fine really)? Or would I have to deal with M&M to get a ticket reissued in this case?

Since it's both Thai Smile / TG flights, I am hoping this is the right place to ask. In case it makes any difference, I do hold *A gold but no status with TG.

Thanks all!

Thai are usually very good with favourably handling separate tickets in situations like yours, where in fact they have no obligation to do anything.

I am not sure if the station in VTE would be as good in dealing with this request, and may not be able to issue the BKK-HKG boarding pass.

You havent given yourself much time. In the case you miss the TG606, then TG owes you nothing, and I would not risk your arrangements as IMHO there is too little time between flights to buffer a late arrival on the WE/TG flight. I would give myself 4 hours, and spend that time relaxing in the lounge rather than stressing over the connection.

Complicating factor is the the tix has been issued by M&M, and if you missed TG606 I suspect TG would send you to them in the first instance.

And Thai Smile is not a Star Alliance member, even if under a TG code share flight number.

Who knows how this could go....

Or, take the TG metal evening flight to BKK, overnight in BKK, and fly to HKG the next day. Could presumably all be on one J award ticket.

Thank you both for responding.

I hadn't booked it yet. Wanted to check first if this is a smart endeavor and your last sentence pretty much sums up my fears. I won’t attempt this.

This is what I ended up booking just now. Both flights on one award ticket in J on TG metal.

Again, thank you.
