CDG for me is a nightmare airport
depending on which terminal and gate your flight is, is quite difficult if not impossible to visit another lounge in a different terminal or gate
Thai flies from gates K in 2E terminal
there is a lousy lounge of airfrance there that serves Thai passengers, so I am going to skip the lounge and maximize my time at the airport hotel
EVA flies from 2E but they use L gates and there is a wonderful Airfrance lounge that EVA uses for their flight
but I can not access that with Thais J boarding pass
the big question is why those flights are not to the newly renovated terminal one
lounge before security is nothing new, CHANGI airport is like that in the 3 terminals out of 4

The Air France lounge in the K gates is not bad, it can get horribly crowded though. So if you are there at the wrong time of day I can very clearly understand why you would be disappointed in the experience. What time is the TG departure?

One of the many reasons I despise Changi airport....

If TG arrives late for any reason, then you risk being a no-show from LHs perspective. Unless you have a flexible tix that allows for no-show or missed checkin then you may be out of luck, and need to cough for another tix to MUC. Not sure if travel insurance policies cover separate tickets.
I am not aware of THAIs formal schedule change policy. I assume you mean how would they assist in the event the TG flight is delayed from PVG?

Well, it all depends! I would not do this on separate tickets, but maybe my appetite for risk is low.

It would also be nice to know how TG would "assist" if the inbound is late - yes I know they have no obligation given separate tickets, but firsthand experience is always appreciated. Travelling in C if it makes any difference - plan is to try and get BPs in PVG for both segments.

I meant schedule change policy - other option would be to fly CTU-BKK with a 6.5 hour layover. It's currently scheduled daily starting December but is currently only a few times per week. If I book this option and the frequency gets reduced, I was just curious as to how flexible TG was with picking another destination/booking on another *A carrier, etc.

TG used to love doing schedule adjustments 5 to 10 minutes at a time, and basically only send a notification as a matter of fact rather than the option to accept or reject.
I would not expect TG to allow you to pick another Star Alliance carrier in case they reduce the frequency.

even you probably arrive between 8pm and 10pm at a very busy time at transit security, transit should not be a problem as you can always approach the dragon at the escalator to the transit security and they will let you jump the queue on a tight connection
your "only" risk is a delay of more than 90 minutes of your flight from PVG and this might happen once in a while, a bit more likely than from SIN, TPE, HKG or KUL, but still less than from MNL or CGK
TG might assist you in catching your connection but they are not obliged to and will certainly not compensate you in any way...

The Thai staff and systems have no problem in issuing boarding passes for separate ticket LH flights, though I don't know about the status of the ground staff in PVG. Some of the outstations have very little leeway.

Seems like the safer bet is to take the 6.5 hour layover and hope the schedule doesn't get reduced

I have a BKK-BOM ticket which I booked online and I'd like to change to CNX-BKK(stop)-BOM.
What would be the best way to go about this? I can't do it online and the wait seemed excessive on hold. The concept of emailing for changes seems foreign to me - doesn't seat inventory fluctuate in real time?

You could also just buy a separate ticket CNX-BKK, with plenty of time to ensure you make the BKK-BOM flight. Of course, you do carry the risk in the event of a delay.

Thanks. I know it needs re-price, and CNX-BKK is a few days before BKK-BOM. Somehow CNX-BKK-BOM works out to be cheaper than a separate ticket and was hoping I could save some baht.

Up to you if the (small) saving in THB is worth a big effort..

Another point is whether the current ticket is fully refundable. Part of the value may be lost depending on the fare rules.....

I just didn't realize that there was a phone change fee which sort of negates most of the benefit of calling in sadly

I would feel reasonably sure that this would not be a change, but a cancel and rebook. You are wanting to change the starting point of the ticket. But again it depends on what is in the limitations of the fare rules.
