Thai Airways Offers Flight Simulator Sessions for Frequent Flyer Points

Do you have an extra 9,900 Royal Orchid points in your account? If so, you can redeem them not for a flight, but for a chance to spend an hour in one of Thai's flight simulators.

This will use one of their flight simulators in their training center so they should manage to use it when it is available.

Wow that is a really good deal! Can the price in points be correct?

kittiyut Sep 20, 2014 7:44 pm

That is extremely cheap!

BinSabai Sep 21, 2014 1:44 am

and it does not even seem to be a promotional offer as it's on their website as well
http://www.thaiairways.com/frequent-...ator-Award.htm

really cheap! other airlines offer that for 100k miles or more or for 250 USD up

Interesting.

Having previously tried my hand at landing an SQ A380 in Zurich in a snowstorm, I can verify that these simulators are both frighteningly realistic and a huge amount of fun.

Anybody know where Thais head office is in relation to suvarnabhumi airport.?

Sorry to spoil the excitement but you will not be flying the simulator as pilot.
You will just sit in the jump seat and watch the pilots train.
I was also excited about the reward, but once I found out, it turned me down. Hope they come up with a reward to allow you to fly perhaps for 50,000 miles.

Ahh, yes, you are correct. It actually states "How to redeem Non-Pilot Simulator Visit" but in my excitement I missed that small but crucial detail. Oh well, it was a nice idea for about 4 hours....

Lol now it makes sense why it's 9900 miles :(

Has anyone actually done this? Is it just a watching session rather than anything hands-on?

Surely "non-pilot" visit just means that it's aimed at people are ARE NOT pilots! In other words you're a 'non-pilot'.

Everyone on this thread seems to have talked themselves out of the experience because they may not get to touch the controls... can anyone elaborate further?

An uncle of mine was a very high ranking Australian police officer who had seen everything. He went in one with his pilot son and he panicked. He said it was so realistic he just had to get out of there immediately.

I'd just enjoy a regular landing, with maybe one or two buttons beeping at me.

spk Sep 28, 2015 1:00 am

I've redeemed it once for my son. He got to fly the A380 for an hour. He was assisted by simulator engineers sitting on the right hand seat and instructor's panel.

He flew the simulator in captain's seat. He's in command of the aircraft, not just sitting around in the jump seat!

He did a taxi, take off, circuit, a few touch and go, and landing with full motion on. It's a great experience and worth 9,900 miles.

Most of the sessions will be assigned to A380, A340 and A300 simulators since those are not as busy as other larger fleets.

You're watch someone else fly it.

Either way, if I have time in Bangkok, I may well give it a go.
